The GI-MAP tests for…

Undesirable things, like:

1️⃣ Parasites - the organisms that feed on the host (you) and hang out in your gut causing symptoms such as weight gain/loss, diarrhea, stomach pain, fatigue, nutrient deficiencies, gas, foul-smelling 💩 and food sensitivities.

2️⃣ Antibiotic resistance - bacteria develop the ability to defeat the drugs designed to murder them. That means the germs continue to thrive.

3️⃣ Bacterial overgrowth - Overgrowth of opportunistic (and even normal) bacteria can occur due to poor diet, antibiotic use, parasitic infection, low stomach acid, and a weakened immune system. Symptoms can include diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, loose stools, and weight gain.

4️⃣ Leaky gut - An impaired intestinal barrier may be letting toxins into your bloodstream, causing inflammation and potentially autoimmune issues.

5️⃣ Gluten intolerance - Gluten, the protein found in wheat, can trigger the anti-gliadin IgA antibodies, indicating an immune response in the gut to gluten in the diet.

6️⃣ Digestive function - Addresses whether fats and carbohydrates are being properly absorbed. Some signs of an issue: floaty poo, diarrhea, poo that is difficult to flush and appears greasy, and is foul-smelling. Basically, weird poo.

No one can diagnose you based solely on symptoms, it’s really just a guess. 🧐

And so, most people that suffer with GI symptoms end of doing a lot of trial-and-error and become frustrated. Why suffer needlessly when all you have to do is test your gut microbiome, see what exactly is in there, and treat that specific issue.

Easy-Peasy it’s included in the
GI MAP!

Inside your body, there is a two-way highway that transports info back & forth between your brain and your gut. This highway is known as the gut-brain axis (or GBA for short).

Because of the GBA, the health of your gut can affect your brain, and vice versa, in a bunch of different ways, including:

- Cognitive function, aka how good your brain works. Short-chain fatty acids are magical little molecules that are produced when your gut breaks down carbs. Scientists think that they can travel to your brain and protect against vascular dementia and cognitive impairment (PMID: 24997042).

-Irritable bowel syndrome (or IBS). People with anxiety are THREE TIMES more likely to have irritable bowel syndrome while IBS affects up to FIFTY PERCENT of people who have an anxiety disorder. It’s a bit of a chicken & egg situation- scientists aren’t sure which is most likely to be the cause of the other, but they do agree that managing one will likely help with the other’s symptoms (PMID: 33493503).

-Depression & anxiety. Studies have shown that the ratio of bacteria in your gut microbiome plays a major part in regulating your brain chemicals and could affect your risk of developing anxiety, depression, or other mood disorders (PMID: 22968153).

If your gut is screwed up, whether it be from poor diet, bacterial infection, or antibiotic drugs, it’s probably affecting your brain more than you may realize.

“Workout” by sitting in the sauna? Hell yes!

What if you could just sit on your ass and gain similar benefits as you would in a regular cardio sweat sesh?

Studies suggest frequent dry sauna use mimics a variety of health parameters as seen in a typical workout, some of which are:

- Increased core body temperature 🥵
- Decreased resting blood pressure post-sauna 🩸
- Increased blood flow to skin (have you seen me in the sauna? Beet red.) 👹
- Increased heart rate 🫀

PMID: 33513711

Excessive sweating such as that induced by a hot as hell sauna also aids in:

- Detox
- Weight loss
- Skin moisture barrier properties
- Overall quality of life

How to?
176+ degrees F
4+ x week
20+ minutes

So quiet that inner bitch, amp up the sauna, and sit your way to health.

I’m JK, you still need to move your body. Don’t be a lazy ass.

But you will be sexier. 💃🕺

So, while sauna use isn’t directly related to gut health, it’s certainly related to overall health and reduced inflammation, and that benefits your gut!

What’s in your supplements?

It’s super easy to buy the wrong product when shopping for a vitamin or supplement. Sometimes the ingredients aren’t in the amounts stated on the label or there’s some BS in there that you don’t want. Like lead.

These are the most commonly found counterfeit supplement brands on Amazon.
* Bausch + Lomb
* Designs for Health
* Fungi Perfecti
* Garden of Life
* Jarrow
* Life Extension
* Microbiome Labs
* Natrol
* Nature Made
* NatureMD
* NOW Foods
* OmegaBrite
* Pure Encapsulations

No worries, we’re here to help!

Based on our experience, these are the top 5 red flags that you should be aware of when buying vitamins and other supplements.

1. Misspellings on product label
2. Broken safety seal
3. Sold by other than Amazon.com or the supplement manufacturer (iHerb.com is a verified seller for most brands)
4. Supplement is a different size, shape, or color than what you’ve ordered before
5. Reviewers mention any of the above.

Of course, products with none of these red flags can still have been improperly made, mislabeled, contaminated, spoiled, or provide pills that won’t properly break apart.

Buy from reputable companies with quality ingredients. Know what you’re swallowing.

Drumroll please... it’s...

FALSE!

That’s right, artificial sweeteners may seem like an easy way to cut calories and lose weight, but a new study shows that in the long term they are actually linked with an INCREASED risk of weight gain, type 2 diabetes, and obesity (PMID: 29159583).

The reason lies in the gut, of course.

Basically, when you eat normal sugar, your body anticipates its appearance in the gut and signals your brain to prepare for digestion and fuel from the calories.

However, since artificial sweeteners usually have low or no calories, your body freaks out and these signals don’t send correctly, if at all!

Three main things that can happen when your body is exposed to artificial sweeteners:

1️⃣ You aren’t going to feel full for as long, and you’ll likely be reaching for that bag of chips pretty quickly.

2️⃣ When your body gets used to low-calorie sweeteners, it will purposely use less energy to digest them, which may contribute to weight gain.

3️⃣ It can screw up the bacteria ratio in your gut microbiome, which may lead to glucose intolerance and diabetes.

So consider switching that diet soda to a naturally flavored sparkling water (Waterloo is my favorite), and be sure to check labels to avoid products that list in the ingredients
-sucralose
-aspartame
-saccharin
-acesulfame or
-neotame
Artificial sugars can be snuck into a lot of unexpected places like toothpaste, mouthwash, and store-bought sauces & frozen dinners.

If everyone scurries away from you like you’ve got a case of rotten eggs in your pocket… 😷

…it could be your noxious gas. 💨

The average man passes gas (aka flatus) 14 times per day. (That seems low.) 😂 Up to 25 times a day is normal. [PMID: 28316536} The study didn’t test women, likely because women don’t fart.

Excess gas is often a symptom of a chronic intestinal condition, like:
- Physical obstruction - can inhibit gas transit in the gastrointestinal tract
- Carb maldigestion - maldigestion/malabsorption of simple and complex carbohydrates and dietary fiber often cause gas and bloating
- Lactose intolerance - lactase deficiency often results in substantial toot-ery
- Fructose/sucrose intolerance
- Ingestion of carbonated drinks
- Ingestion of fake sugars - watch those ingredients ending in “-tol” like mannitol, sorbitol, excessive gas in 3… 2… 1… practically guaranteed
- Bacterial overgrowth - some bacteria produce methane gas and if you think rotten eggs smell bad… you don’t want a sniffer full of methane
- H. Pylori overgrowth
- Food intolerances - super common

If any of these sound (ha!) like you, you may have some rebalancing to do with that gut of yours.

Your mom always said “Eat your veggies.”

Guess what? Mom was right!

A new study in mice from Penn State shows that eating broccoli protects the gut. Certain molecules in broccoli interact with proteins present in the small intestine, which increases the number of cells involved in protecting the gut.

The study:

* Two groups of mice 🐭
* One was fed a diet that consisted of 15% freeze-dried broccoli 🥦
* The other ate their regular mouse diet, and no broccoli
* They found that certain molecules in the broccoli, either phytochemicals, microbiota, or metabolites – bound with specific proteins in the gut called aryl hydrocarbon receptors.
* This increased the number of beneficial cells in the gut, which increased important mucus production and helped with intestinal transit
* Antimicrobial peptides and immune factors that regulate the gut microbial composition were also increased
