Let me tell you - this didn’t hurt at all. In fact, the vertical squeeze (MLO) was only slightly uncomfortable and the horizontal squeeze (CC) was totally comfortable. My tech helped me get into the right position for an optimal view, and she even re-positioned me when she saw a skin fold.

In fairness, it’s definitely harder to see things in hormonally active breast tissue. But that’s not a reason to delay. It’s especially disturbing to see women, including female physicians, get told to skip something as important as *cancer screening* because it’s inconvenient or a little harder to do. @radiologyacr has very helpfully published guidelines here, which you can print and bring with you to your mammo appt: https://acsearch.acr.org/docs/3102382/Narrative/
So if you are due for your mammogram, if you’re thirty five and over and you feel a mass, if you have that feeling in your gut that something isn’t right…trust it. Get a mammogram to go with your ultrasound.

Bring a part of this country can be hard at times. There’s never a moment where we aren’t struggling with its ideals. Our lack of shared opinions. Even in a pandemic, we don’t feel like a team, and that’s exhausting.
