I'm assuming that if you're diabetic then you know that you are at high risk for developing chronic kidney disease (CKD). You should also know how often your kidney function should be checked and what test results mean. If you already are aware, than this is a great reminder because many diabetics needing dialysis often have said that they wished they had known about their ailing kidney function.

A new study from the Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology showed that fast food increased their risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, which could lead to cirrhosis and it’s complications including liver failure and liver cancer.

Recent approval of TZIELD for the delay of Type 1 diabetes in November 2022 opens the possibility that people at greatest risk of getting Type 1 diabetes may be able to delay it’s onset! Studies found that using this drug delays Type 1 diabetes by roughly 2 years and longer in some cases.

Unfortunately, this drug will cost $193,850. The company launched a program called COMPASS to help patients navigate insurance reimbursement, as well as with financial assistance.

Like I tell most people, don't trust the front of the packaging, because even though they put health claims on there that might be legal, to me they're not ethical, and it's too vague of a term.

So, it's the impression of you eating a healthy product because of the claims on the front of the package, or a "healthy" looking design that really drives us and influences us on how we perceive our food supply.

Unfortunately companies capitalize off the word "healthy". Studies have been done between two versions of a product and the way they look on the front as to who thinks they're eating something healthy, and the majority of studies show that you're really not eating something healthy even though you think you are.

Bottom line is, don't trust the adjectives on the package regarding your own health. Go to the label and look for the specific nutrient that you are looking for. As it always has been true and it still is, stay clear of the center aisles of the grocery store.

As a diabetic, it's important to understand nutrition labels and how to interpret nutritional values, especially fiber.
