It’s easy to think that once we get an MRI, we’ll know exactly what’s wrong. And oftentimes, that’s what my patients hope for. But here’s the truth:

👉Not all MRI findings are significant.

Many people – even those with no pain at all – have things like:
✅Herniated discs
✅Meniscus tears
✅Tendon degeneration
✅Labral fraying

These are often normal age-related changes. They show up, but they don’t always explain your symptoms.

So in sports medicine, I always ask: “Does what I see on the scan match your clinical picture?”

That means your exam, history, movement patterns, and symptoms are just as important…if not more.

I don’t treat images. I treat people!!

Total rest often slows down recovery. The right kind of movement is what actually HELPS healing.

In most cases, early controlled movement improves circulation, reduces stiffness, and helps tissues heal properly.

not just physically, but emotionally. Her injury had her sidelined, and mentally she was checked out.

But once we started addressing the mental side of recovery, things shifted. She became more engaged in rehab, more motivated…and now? She's running again.

Here are a few ways we supported her mentally, not just physically:

A common misconception in rehab: pain = damage.

Not always true. In fact, some discomfort during recovery is expected, especially when rebuilding strength or mobility.

Pain can mean your body is adapting. The key is knowing the difference between productive pain and harmful pain…and that’s where guided care comes in.

🔹Sharp, sudden pain? Needs looking into.
🔹Dull ache during exercises? Often normal.
🔹Post-workout soreness? Expected.
🔹Lingering pain that worsens? Let’s reassess.

It’s hard to watch my patients navigate this kind of unexpected hurdle in their careers. It’s a struggle – physically AND mentally. But here’s what I need you to hear:

Injury rehab isn’t only about stretching, strengthening, or regaining mobility. Your mindset plays a huge role, too.

Keep these things in mind:
✅Athletes who understand the mental side of recovery tend to make faster, more consistent progress.
✅Stress, frustration, and fear of re-injury can slow healing and limit results.
✅A positive, focused mindset helps the body respond better to treatment.

To inject or not to inject? That’s a question I get all the time, and today was a great example of why the answer isn't always black and white.

A patient came in with joint pain, but he was finally starting to improve. In his case, we held off on an injection. Why? Because when the body is healing on its own, there’s no need to rush an intervention. Conservative care was working.

But on the flip side, there are cases where waiting too long can actually hold recovery back. If pain lingers, function declines, or inflammation blocks progress in therapy…that’s when an injection can help reset the course.

The bottom line?
👉Not every pain needs a shot
👉But some pains shouldn’t be ignored

Personalized care is key. It’s about using the right tools at the right time, and that includes knowing when not to treat. Find a physician you can trust to help you make an informed decision!

I had a patient recently (a dedicated runner) come in with persistent forefoot pain.

Diagnosis? Neuromas and bursitis, both worsened by improper shoe wear. 😬

The wrong footwear doesn’t just affect comfort. It can change your gait, add stress to joints, and lead to chronic injuries. Whether you’re a runner, walker, or weekend warrior, supportive, activity-appropriate shoes are non-negotiable.

Here’s what you need to know before buying your next pair of shoes:
✅ Choose shoes based on your foot type
✅ Replace them regularly (300–500 miles for running shoes)

Girlie afternoon at Café Dior with a fellow warrior mom 💕

Both of us are navigating the long road of recovery after fractures that required surgery. Behind the smiles and lattes are stories of pain and the mental load of motherhood while healing.

Taking this moment for a little joy reminded us that rest is not weakness. It's renewal!
