What’s the difference between the Haakaa and the Ladybug milk collector?

To sum it up, if you’re looking for a way to “pump” and still increase or maintain your milk supply, the Haakaa is clearly the winner!

Most moms like to pop it on the other breast while nursing, which gently suctions out milk from the other side. Or you can wear them around the house, however, make sure it’s secure when full🩷

Happy BHM! 🖤✊🏽❤️

It is truly a privilege to be doing what I love. A passion with such a rich history, yet ugly circumstances considering.

As a black birthworker, I’m constantly in search of more understanding and more wisdom. Everyday I try to walk in tune with my ancestors. Slowly but surely getting back to my “roots”.

Honoring those who came before me; and those who will come after.

From a mama who pumped around the clock for 15 months because her little one wouldn’t latch, washed pump parts, donated over 400oz to the and dedicated her time to being hooked up to a machine (which is equivalent to working 2 full time jobs), drove halfway across the country and pumped/washed pump parts in the car, I must say I’m so proud! Their were so many days I wanted to give up..

World Breast Pumping Day will always hold a special place in my heart! No matter if you pumped for 1 year or 1 week, you deserve to pat yourself on the back. It is NOT easy! The days seemed long, but the nights seemed longer. To any mama’s currently in the thick of it who need some encouragement: YOU GOT THIS! But also if you feel like you want to end your journey, that’s perfectly okay too. A happy mama is a happy baby💗

It was truly profound when I learned that grief doesn’t always equate to death.

Motherhood is the “unknown”. Sometimes the unknown can be scary. It’s okay to not know what to expect. It’s okay to grieve the person you were before.

Remember: the woman you’re becoming will be so much greater.

Whether you’re on baby #1 or baby #5, it’s okay to not have everything figured out. It’s okay to do things differently for this baby than you did with your last.

Every pregnancy is different. Every child is different. And every stage of motherhood will be different. There is so much beauty in the uncertainty! 🌱✨

As moms, it’s so easy get caught up in the “what if’s”. Sometimes it seems as though their never ending. This is a gentle reminder: instead of focusing on a million things that could go wrong. Focus on the NOW and all the things that are currently going right.

It’s important to think in absolutes or things that we know to be true. Because until the “what if’s” are proven to be true, their all just hypotheticals anyway.

YOU’RE DOING AN AMAZING JOB, MAMA! And your baby is so lucky to have you💗

According to a recent 2021 study, 1 in 10 men will suffer from postpartum depression. In fact, the likelihood increases if the mother experiences postpartum depression.

Dads need love and support as well. They have the weight of the world on their shoulders and are now trying to figure out where they fit in. Try to include them in as much as possible! If you’re breastfeeding- allow them to wash bottles/pump parts. Give them the opportunity to change the baby’s diaper and also bathe the baby at bath time.

Give them the freedom to express themselves honestly and openly to you. Some may also wish to seek therapy, support them in their efforts🌻

Let’s talk about Baby Blues and Postpartum Depression!

It’s important to note that these symptoms are included, but not limited to and that all moms may not experience the same symptoms and that’s okay!

It’s also super important that you reach out to your doctor if you start to feel any of these symptoms or you’re not really sure which one you’re experiencing.

DO NOT FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL YOUR 6 WEEK APPOINTMENT! Some OB’s may also want to check in with you sooner.

Remember: this is the time to lean on family, friends and your postpartum doula. Be open and honest. Don’t feel ashamed or feel like you’ll be judged. YOU ARE WORTHY! YOU ARE LOVED💗🌻
