Paddington Bear is off on another adventure! Greetings from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷

If you tried to book with me in January, you may have noticed that you’ll have to wait. I was fully booked seeing all my clients before I left, and out of office until early February. Sorry I didn’t have time to squeeze everyone in 😢

As much as I hate leaving my practice and amazing clients behind, this was the most valuable course I have EVER taken.

I had the incredible honor of training with Tom Myers, the creator of Anatomy Trains, a holistic view of myofascial continuities throughout the body. He is one of the most pivotal body workers of our generation, and his system is used by massage therapists, chiropractors, personal trainers, and movement teachers of all types.

His books and online teachings have guided my approach to massage therapy since the very beginning of my career. He views the body as a dynamic web, held together through balanced, opposing forces, with a floating structure within. Instead of a reductionist view of muscles and their roles, acting around a fixed skeleton, he looks at fascia as elongated lines of force and shock absorption, connecting toes to nose, in a dynamic web.

This course is called “When the Body Speaks” analyzing how emotional trauma interplays with posture, fascia, and tension. We dove deep into body reading, postural analysis, and the meaning behind different holding patterns.

Tom could put one of us in front of the class, and read us like a book. He noticed any imbalance, and theorized the potential trauma behind the pattern — and he was spot on, time after time. Many (unexpected) tears were shed, and healing happened ❤️‍🩹

Of course, there was much reverence and manual therapy for the all important psoas 🙏 and other muscles of breath.

I wil forever see the body differently, with greater understanding of the history and buried emotions within our fascia. And I can’t wait to share this work with you all! In the mean time, I’ll be reading books on the beach ✌️

Had a blast Annual Joh Fair! it was great meeting, passionate young students and massage therapists looking for new opportunities.

And I got to finally meet one of my Instagram friends friends IRL. We’ve been following each other for years and mutually respecting each other’s work.

His name is and he’s a multi modal healer and chiropractor. His practice, combines massage, chiropractic adjustments, decompression, and physical therapy to get people out of pain fast. Love his work!

He’s out in West Austin, on Bee Cave. If you ever in pain, and not sure what modality might fix it, he’s your guy!

The MOST damage to your joints, muscles, and fascia comes from pushing too hard and too much. It comes from focus on EXTERNAL performance over experiencing INTERNAL sensations.

Now don’t get me wrong, I love going beast mode 💯

But if you think about the prehistoric man, they weren’t pushing themselves to 100% every day. They didn’t have some six day a week training schedule and accomplishments to aim for 🏆

The sweet spot is that 70 to 90% effort range. You still get stronger here 💪 but recovery is much easier. This is the range we were built to operate at sustainably for the long-term.

And it’s easy to let the enthusiasm for goals push us into poor decision-making. It makes us push the body harder than we instinctively would and push through injury for the sake of a win. I see it all the time in my athletic clients: the injuries we refuse to rest and recover from are the injuries that haunt us for the rest of our lives 👻

I’ve learned so much with my experience as a massage therapist 🤩 Feeling so many bodies at all different ages and through different sports, it’s taught me a lot about how to view the body and our relationship to it.

We only get this one body! And the goal is a long life full of joy and positive movement, not the temporary highs and wins. I used to push too hard with the short term vision in mind. Now I’m content with slow and steady progress, and my body THANKS me for it 🙏

This is true in deep tissue massage, but it’s true everywhere in life.

Let’s start with massage…

First, we warm up and get to know what’s going on. We develop an awareness of the different tensions and forces at play, and their forms are no longer strangers to you. As you familiarize yourself with the new sensations hidden in your tissues, the first layer of holding relaxes. This is the gateway to deeper work.

As the tensions begin to let go, we are ready to sink into deeper pressure. At this point, you are ready to receive it and know that you want it. We slowly release layer upon layer, as the tissue shifts and unwinds.

Intense sensations arise here as pain is leaving the body. The feelings here are powerful, but ultimately restorative and grounding.

Your breath is your trusty companion as you accept the deeper work. On the exhale, you can allow the tissue to surrender.

It takes a strong sense of safety, security, trust, and readiness to be able to enjoy true deep work. The right way to go deep is not just about force. The right way to go deep is with the right CONDITIONS.

It’s all about creating a safe massage cocoon, so we have the sacred space to regenerate. You need a safe and cozy environment, a trusted guide as your massage therapist, and a good warm up to check in with your body and wind down, before it gets harder.

The same is true to go deep in life - with whatever you need to release. It’s the same process to let go of old holding patterns and regenerate. There are moments of pain in the challenges of it all, but your purpose is able to pull you through the difficulty.

Similarly, it’s all about the conditions that allow for deep work:
Safe Environment
Trusted Guides
Warm up and relaxing into the process
Know what you are ready to release

This is a gentle reminder that if you’re ready to release something in your life, it’s not just about putting yourself through pain and loss. Set yourself up for success by giving yourself the support you need. Warm up, stay light hearted to enjoy the process, and honestly see the true face behind your tension. Then, you're prepared for meaningful deep work.

It’s official 🎉 We’ve got a registered trademark

I applied for this for almost two years ago. It’s been a long time, with a lot of hoping and waiting.

On one hand, it’s amazing that we own our brand officially. On the other hand, it’s just a name.

It’s really about the technique and the method. That’s what makes us special. It doesn’t matter as much what we call it.

Our work just looks so much different than the standard table massage. Before the Neu Release®️ brand, receivers would say “this isn’t massage, it’s better!”

I’m grateful for all the support, from people who love our wacky method just as much as we do. Thanks for the love, y’all.

We are looking for passionate Licensed Massage Therapists to join our team in Austin TX! 🎉

New therapists start out by offering traditional Swedish and Deep Tissue massage, before your advanced training with us.

Our therapists get FREE ADVANCED TRAINING 😱 in Neu Release®, a mat-based massage and stretching method integrating Thai, Ashiatsu, Myofascial Release, and Sports massage, designed to bring release and a new awareness to the nervous system. This method is both more effective for the receiver, AND effortless for the giver. It’s a WIN WIN for everyone. 👏

We believe the purpose of massage therapy & bodywork is connection, with our bodies, our purpose, our community, and ourselves. ✨ The massage therapist aligns balance, strength and ease, to help the receiver learn these qualities within themselves.

Conventional massage beats up your body – abusing the upper bodies, trying to use the hands and elbows to fix every problem. Neu Release® is an opportunity to grow beyond, and to use your entire body to give massage, so you can enjoy a more comfortable and sustainable career.

And a little bonus, the training process involves giving and receiving lots of massage! So you can get lots of deep bodywork included. Who doesn’t need more massages in their life? 🙋‍♀️

Do you know any LMT’s in Austin who are ready to level up their career? Please share this post or tag them in the comments. 🤗
