To Whom it May Concern:
This is the Facebook business page for RiverRock Medical Clinic, based in Austin TX. We have claimed this page to prevent misrepresentation or false claims.
We have been advised (repeatedly) that Facebook marketing and engagement is important to gaining new members and growing our practice. We acknowledge the utility of Facebook in this regard.
However, our mission is to maximize our members’ (and future members’) health.
Having reviewed the scientific literature currently available, our opinion is that Facebook and other social media are intentionally addictive, while serving to increase loneliness and depression, negatively affect self-perception of worth, reduce sleep quality, increase sedentary behavior, and to make individuals’ dreams seem less achievable, not more.
Although it might improve our success as a company, it would do so at the cost of betraying the core of our purpose. As a result, we have chosen not to engage with this platform beyond this statement.
We wish you well, stay safe out there.
