Know someone who loves video games and is navigating social anxiety or isolation?

Our colleague, Beth Jackson LMFTA, is starting an interesting new online therapy group for socially anxious/isolated adults utilizing the Nintendo Switch game "Animal Crossing".

The group is a social support group for adults ages 20 and up and will feature playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons! The goal of the group is to immerse into the world of Animal Crossing while playing with others. Participants will learn how to engage in social interactions, learn aspects of social communication and gatherings, and hopefully be able to take the skills learned into the real-life world to build stronger personal relationships. It is an LGBTQIA+ and neurodiversity-affirming space.

It is a 4-week commitment during one month on Saturdays starting October 7, 2023 from 5pm-7pm. The price for this month-long experience is $200 flat fee. She plans to do it each month, and participants are able to participate on a month-to-month basis.

Please feel free to share with any Texas clients who may benefit from an interactive group like this, there is a digital flyer attached below as well.

Interested folks can set up a free 15-minute consult with Beth or learn more by emailing her at beth@peacelanetherapy.com . Thanks so much!

Let's hope this one works better than the last one that was tried. Would be amazing to be able to prevent folks from contracting this rapidly growing infectious disease.

There isn't currently a Lyme disease vaccine on the U.S. market. Researchers are hoping to change that.

Happy Pride Month! Y'all means ALL!

Happy PRIDE month! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🟰 Thank you to all of the brave q***r activists who have risked their lives so that all LOVE is accepted. To all of my fellow q***r followers, I see you, I stand with you, and I am proud of you!! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Whether you’re out or not, you are WORTHY of love, affection, kindness and acceptance EXACTLY as you are. I hope you’re giving yourself the kindness and love that you inherently deserve today. BINGO! Who else got one 😄 ?

Time to play a game! Chronic illness bingo! ✨ Relating to one another through humor can be a great way to build connections and make living with chronic illness a bit easier. While living with chronic illness is extremely challenging and holds a lot of difficult emotions, it doesn't mean that we can’t make light of certain elements to cope or make ourselves feel less alone. If this game made you smile, share it with your support network and see if it brings them a little joy too! Did you get a bingo? Comment below! 👇

Hey there, my fellow Mental Health Professional peeps! Are you interested in learning how to become more neurodiversity affirming in your couples therapy work?
Then I invite you to come check out my upcoming training – The Ethics of Neurodiversity Affirming Couples Therapy!

In this 3 hour live virtual training we will explore neurodiversity affirming couples therapy through the lenses of ethical models, including the social model for disability. We will bust some common neurodiversity myths, challenge our assumptions, and explore how to adapt our couples therapy work to be more inclusive, effective, and neurodiversity affirming.
Attendees will explore and learn…

• A new perspective for understanding neurodiversity and neurodivergence.
• What they miss in couples therapy training about neurodiversity and neurodivergence.
• The ethical foundation for providing neurodiversity affirming care in couples therapy and beyond.
• How to navigate ethical dilemmas in working with neurodivergence and mixed neurotype couples.
• How to adapt couples therapy models to be more neurodiversity affirming, inclusive, and effective.

Includes 3 Ethics CEUs that meet Texas license requirements. Discounts available for Associates, Students, and BIPOC professionals.

The training itself will be neurodiversity affirming and will encourage accommodations to support neurodivergent clinicians, such as options to turn off their camera while attending, access to handouts of slides, and will also have a mix of lecture, media, and experiential activities to keep things interesting!

Click the link below to learn more. Hope to see some of you there!

Growing up neurodivergent, and also having many neurodivergent clients, I see that many of us have spent much of our lives trying to conform or tearing ourselves down because we’re different. But that’s the thing, why should it be a bad thing to be different? Why is this not more widely celebrated? I think the world would be a much more boring place if we all were the same.

While neurodevelopmental conditions like ADHD and Autism are not mental illnesses, many neurodivergent people navigate mental illness as well. ADHD being linked to depression, and autism with anxiety, highlights how when society does not want to adapt to these kinds of minds—people suffer. When people have a hard time fitting in or finding comfort within social and professional spaces, it is challenging to thrive and sustain a regulated nervous system.

Many of the systems in place for work and social environments are intolerable for neurodivergent individuals, causing our abilities to be forcibly stifled. If we engrained more respect, accessibility, and conversation around the topic of neurodiversity there would be less stigma and more benefit to everyone involved. I have hopes of moving towards a more inclusive and understanding populus, but it starts with people like you and me generating the conversations.

How do you ignite conversations around neurodiversity and mental health in your circles?
