“Anxiety exerts its influence over every aspect of day-to-day living and is often accompanied by diverse physical symptoms. Patients will frequently feel like something is wrong with their body and, despite seeking medical opinions and making hospital visits, physical pathologies are rarely
identified. Once cleared, the standard of care in modern medicine is to make a referral to a therapist or psychiatrist who recommends counseling.
Patients with anxiety disorders are essentially ‘analog beings’ whose realities cannot be neatly captured within simplistic differentiations. For instance, even if 100 patients are diagnosed with ‘heart-kidney yang deficiency,’ their symptom profiles will differ 100 ways — no two are alike.”
This is a small excerpt from my latest translation, “Clinical Management of Anxiety Disorders,” by Ikai Yoshio, as featured in the November 2025 issue of NAJOM, Vol 32, Number 95.
