I believe every sensation in labor has a purpose. The goal isn’t to escape the pain, but to understand it—and work with it.
Here are some of the most effective tools to support you:
1. Your mind — grounding in affirmations of safety and capability.
2. Your breath — calming your nervous system to reduce tension (and with it, pain).
3. Your voice — its connection to your pelvic floor is intentional, making deep low sounds open and relax the muscles in your pelvis to make space for your baby.
4. Your environment — dark, warm, quiet, and clean. Just like other mammals, women are deeply sensitive to their surroundings in labor.
5. Your anchor — whether it’s a focal point to gaze at, a comb to squeeze, or the rhythmic buzz of a TENS unit, anchors keep you steady and grounded.
When we prepare and practice, birth transforms from something to fear into a rite of passage that reveals your deepest strength.
