Have you noticed your finger “locking” or snapping when you try to straighten it?

That may be trigger finger, a common and very treatable hand condition.

It happens when swelling around a tendon makes it harder for your finger to move smoothly. You might feel:
• Stiffness in the morning
• A clicking or popping sensation
• Tenderness at the base of the finger
• A finger that gets stuck in a bent position

At Hand ATX Surgery in Austin, you’ll meet directly with an experienced, board-certified hand surgeon who will evaluate your symptoms and walk you through your options. Many cases improve without surgery — and when surgery is needed, it’s typically a quick outpatient procedure with excellent outcomes.

If your hand isn’t working the way it should, we’re here to help.

Call 512-436-9986 or visit www.atxroboticsurgery.com

👀Let’s take a peek inside the OR 👀

Open surgery is what most people picture - surgeons working together over a sterile field (like in Grey’s Anatomy)

With robotic-assisted surgery, your surgeon is still in complete control. They use modern, advanced instruments from a console for enhanced precision, visualization, and control.
🤖 The robot does not operate on its own.
😷 Your surgeon guides every movement.
🎯The goal is smaller incisions, greater precision, and a smoother recovery for many patients.

🕹️Technology supports what our board-certified surgeons do.
💙Compassion guides our care.

Insurance 101: What Is Prior Authorization?

If you’re planning surgery, your insurance company may require prior authorization before your procedure.

That simply means your insurer wants to review the medical information first to decide whether the surgery meets their coverage guidelines (unless it’s an emergency).

Here’s what to remember:
✔ It’s required by your insurance plan
✔ Every plan is different
✔ It may take several days (or longer)
✔ It is not a guarantee of payment

Our team works closely with insurance carriers to help submit the necessary paperwork and determine whether authorization is required for your procedure.

We’re here to make the process smoother — and to answer your questions along the way.

Insurance 101: What Does In-Network vs. Out-of-Network Mean?

✔ In-network = your provider has a contract with your insurance → usually lower costs for you.

⚠ Out-of-network = no contract → higher costs, higher deductibles, or possibly no coverage for non-emergency surgery.

Our surgeons are in-network with most major insurance carriers (BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, United, Medicare, Medicaid)

Important:
Even if your surgeon is in-network, other providers involved in your care (like anesthesia) may be separate.

At ATX Robotic Surgery, our team works to verify your benefits and help you understand what to expect before your procedure.

Insurance 101 – Part 2: What Is a Co-Pay?

A co-pay is a set dollar amount you pay for a healthcare service — typically collected when you receive care.

While every insurance plan is different, co-pays often apply to:
✔ Office visits
✔ Specialist consultations
✔ Certain outpatient services

Keep in mind:
A co-pay does not usually replace your deductible or coinsurance for surgical procedures.

At ATX Robotic Surgery, financial clarity is part of our mission of patient-centered care. Our team will work with your insurance company to help estimate what you may owe before your procedure.

If you ever have questions about your benefits, we’re here to help you navigate them.

INSURANCE EXPLAINED – PART 1: What Is a Deductible?

Planning for surgery includes understanding your insurance benefits.

A deductible is the amount you pay out of pocket for healthcare services before your insurance begins paying its share.

Because every plan is different, your specific deductible and coverage amounts may vary.

Our team at ATX Robotic Surgery will:
✔ Verify your benefits
✔ Help estimate your out-of-pocket costs
✔ Answer your billing questions before surgery

While insurance companies make the final coverage decisions, we’re here to help you navigate the process with clarity and support.

Stay tuned this week as we break down other common insurance terms that affect your surgical costs.

At ATX Robotic Surgery, we LOVE our patients and we want YOU to love your Heart!

❤️ Why might my surgeon request cardiac clearance before surgery? ❤️

Cardiac clearance is a common and important part of surgical planning for some patients. It allows us to confirm that your heart can safely tolerate anesthesia and surgery. 💚

You may be asked to obtain cardiac clearance if you:
✔ Have a known heart condition (such as coronary artery disease, arrhythmia, or heart failure)
✔ Have had prior cardiac surgery or procedures
✔ Take blood thinners or medications that increase bleeding risk
✔ Have certain medical risk factors based on age or health history

🧡 This step is not about delaying care — it’s about protecting you and providing valuable information to your surgeon, anesthesiologist, and the other members of your health care team.

🩵 At ATX Robotic Surgery, we work closely with cardiologists and other members of your health care team in an effort to keep you safe throughout the entire process.

If you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Your health is our priority.
