We, a global collective of stuttering support and self-advocacy organizations, are calling for action from regarding their problematic Impulse App. The app falsely claims to “improve” stuttering through an AI algorithm that analyzes your speech and delivers haptic buzzes to suppress stuttering. Impulse reduces the complex experience of stuttering to just a problem of “rhythm”. It also treats stuttering as something that is inherently disruptive, reinforcing stigma that drives people who stutter to silence their voices.

Our campaign requests that Samsung stops marketing unproven and stigmatizing technologies like Impulse, and engages with the stuttering community to develop inclusive, empowering tech solutions.

Things to Know:
🔑 Samsung’s Impulse app claims to ‘improve’ people who stutter by promoting fluency, but it oversimplifies and stigmatizes stuttering.
🔑 The app uses outdated techniques with only short-term and occasional results, while reinforcing harmful social pressures to speak a certain way.
🔑 The stuttering community calls for accurate representation and collaboration with developers to create truly inclusive and empowering technology.
🔑 Our campaign requests that Samsung remove the ad and any related marketing, and meaningfully collaborate with the stuttering community to develop responsible and inclusive assistive technologies

Hi, I’m Katie! I am a speech-language pathologist and the owner of Infinite Limits Speech Therapy.  Providing neurodiversity-affirming speech & language therapy services to children, and stuttering therapy services for people of all ages in Austin, Texas (and virtually all over the state:))! I have the best job in the world, and am so happy you stumbled upon this page! 

Before opening Infinite Limits Speech Therapy I worked in the public schools. Which I loved, and still sub for them any time I can! It gives me insight and experience working with people with such a wide variety of communication disorders. It is definitely where I developed my “low key” clinical style which is built on connection, humor, and approachability.
