ProPep Surgical reminders you that September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month!

It's a good time to start the discussion about getting screened (or screened again). According to the American Cancer Society, the discussion about screening should take place at:

Age 50 for men who are at average risk of prostate cancer and are expected to live at least 10 more years

Age 45 for men at high risk of developing prostate cancer. This includes African American men and men who have a first-degree relative (father or brother) diagnosed with prostate cancer at an early age (younger than age 65).

Age 40 for men at even higher risk (those with more than one first-degree relative who had prostate cancer at an early age)

The American Cancer Society (ACS) recommends that men have a chance to make an informed decision with their health care provider about whether to be screened for prostate cancer.

Our Story

The ProPep® Nerve Monitoring System is the first FDA-cleared, real-time nerve monitoring system for robotic prostatectomy surgery. This system helps surgeons identify critical, non-visible somatic nerves at risk during surgery, thereby allowing the surgeon to make more-informed decisions on how to spare these nerves, potentially minimizing nerve damage.

For patients, this means that surgeons using this technology have additional information during the operation that may help them reduce inadvertent damage to the critical nerves and in doing so, potentially reduce sexual dysfunction and urinary incontinence that are common side effects.

By enabling informed surgical decisions around tissue handling, ProPep helps patients achieve the best possible chance for full recovery and regaining the quality of life they had before surgery. ProPep cares about a man’s life after cancer, and is providing surgeons with the tools to preserve it.
