A view of GMOs from the real world: Taiwan’s government has passed amendments to the School Health Act that ban the use of genetically modified food ingredients or processed food with such ingredients in school meals. The legislators cited concerns about children's health, claiming that if young students consume foods that are made from genetically modified primary ingredients, it is tantamount to a hidden food safety crisis because they are exposed to unnecessary risks. Being fed GMOs from birth by companies such as Ge**er and Kellogg's, it any wonder that this is the first generation of American children who are sicker than their parents?

This is how we reject the FDA's decision to allow genetically modified salmon into our food supply without labels.
At food retailers, restaurants and big box stores like Costco.
60+ stores have rejected this weighty eel/salmon combo.
None of us can do everything, but all of us can do something.
Very cool to see retailers stepping up.

It's time to replace Michael Taylor!!! How is it possible that the U.S. is making critical decisions about our food system with a decades-old policy that is at odds with global opinion?
Politics not Science Set the Agenda Dan Quayle's 1992 policy announcement is premised on the notion that genetically engineered crops are "substantially equivalent" to regular crops and thus do not need to be labeled or safety tested. The policy was crafted by Michael Taylor, a former Monsanto lawyer who was hired by the Bush FDA to fill the newly created position of deputy commissioner of policy. In an ironic twist, the Obama administration appointed Michael Taylor as the deputy commissioner of foods in 2009, where he now oversees food safety policy for the federal government. Taylor's appointment was highly controversial, not only for crafting this pseudo-scientific policy, which laid the groundwork for helping GMOs avoid rigorous scientific testing and common-sense labeling, but also for his role in guiding the approvallof Monsanto's genetically engineered synthetic hormone rBGH.

Great idea!

A $15 million urban farm will be built on delinquent land owned by the city of Detroit. The 60 acre urban farm will consist of greenhouses and aquaponic systems used to grow specialty produce that will be sold to local restaurants. When complete, the farm will create 120 jobs. What an amazing concept - using delinquent, city owned land to produce healthy, non-GMO food and to create jobs. There will be no corn, soy, canola, cotton, sugarbeets - 60 acres of real food. Detroit, the trendsetter? We hope so! Heck no, we don't need GMOs! Urban agricultural recovery.
