GUIDED IMAGERY

Guided Imagery is a self-awareness and relaxation technique. Guided imagery uses a person's senses to access deeper parts of their inner wisdom and to view their feelings and ideas profoundly.

Guided Imagery uses:
Positive Words
Images
Sounds
Smells

These physiological and psychological processes can then enhance healing and change.

Research has shown that guided imagery focused on relaxation, has the potential to positively impact an individual’s emotional well-being, sense of calmness, and overall relaxation and improve concentration.

Guided imagery also has the potential to create a better attunement to one’s desires and enhance the ability to give and receive pleasure.

Guided Imagery for S*xual Concerns:

Many men and women report having s*xual concerns and the most common are low s*xual desire, s*xual dissatisfaction and performance anxiety. Men and woman’s s*xual interest and desire can be impacted by factors such as physical changes, life stressors, psychological and emotional concerns, quality of relationships or attitudes regarding s*x.

Research indicates that imagination and fantasy can positively impact s*xual attitudes and s*xual interest levels.

“Sensory images are the true language of the body, the only language the body understands immediately and without question. The body does not discriminate between sensory images in the mind and those that we call reality. Although images do not have to be intense impacts on the body, as with the real events, they do enlist the same essential quality of experience in the body” Belleruth Naparstek. S*xual arousal (and sensually focused awareness, desire/ interest) often operate in the same way. The body is just as enthusiastic about s*xual fantasy, as reality, and sometimes more so. Here again, the body is responding as if the images are actual events.Visit my website to purchase downloadable guided imagery recordings for s*xual concerns or to register for the 6-week Guided Imagery for S*xual Desire Program.

You might find it hard to practice guided imagery just using your imagination, use of an audio recording will allow you to fully relax and concentrate on the technique.

WHAT IS PSYCHOTHERAPY?

Psychotherapy sessions enable individuals to heal in connection with trusted, nonjudgmental support. Psychotherapy sessions often foster an authentic understanding of yourself, your goals, and values while also promoting a path toward improving connection in relationships. Psychotherapy seeks to help people with a variety of mental and emotional difficulties. Psychotherapy is a process where psychological and emotional challenges are explored through guided and reflective listening, reflective and experiential exercises, skill-building, and secure relational dynamics. Through connection and support, psychotherapy can create a new way of looking at difficult situations, yourself, and others and open up new possibilities that can move you towards a solution.

Why talk to a Therapist?

The relationship between a therapist and a client exists for the sole purpose of helping the client through emotional challenges.
This therapeutic relationship allows a client to discuss problems with the therapist in a secure, yet open and caring context. Therapists are trained to understand what you say and how you say it. They pay attention to body language and tone of voice. Therapists have learned and are familiar with psychiatric illnesses, symptoms and the difficulties of daily living. They know what questions to ask and may pose questions you have never heard before, helping to create a new way of looking at difficult situations and help people move towards a solution.

There are several forms of psychotherapy. Some of the most common are behavioral, cognitive, and humanistic. However, most therapists will use several aspects from each of the forms of psychotherapy to help specific problems for each client.

NO ONE'S TREATMENT PLAN IS EVER THE SAME!

What problems or symptoms can psychotherapy treat?

Coping with Daily Life
Impact of Trauma
Death of a Loved One
Depression
Anxiety
Relationship Problems

Will psychotherapy help me?

Psychotherapy can be used to help a variety of people, and you may benefit from therapy if you are feeling signs of the following:
Overwhelming feelings of sadness or helplessness
An inability to cope with problems
Difficulty concentrating
Drinking too much, taking drugs, or being aggressive
A sense that problems never improve
Feeling constantly on edge or worrying

Revitalizing Your Relationship

Couples often come to s*x therapy because they wish to improve their relationships. Couples therapy is not limited to married couples. Couples may be straight, same s*x, married, unmarried or dating.

Couples S*x Therapy is most effective when both partners are present for most sessions. If your partner is unable or unwilling to attend, you may proceed with individual counseling.

Common Concerns:
Learn or Improve Communication Skills Around S*x and Intimacy
Develop a Better Understanding of Each Other’s S*xual Wants and Needs, Backgrounds and Life Influences
Improve Intimacy and Connection
Rebuild Trust After an Affair or Other Forms of Betrayal
S*xual Changes Due to Infertility or Pregnancy

Tips to a Healthy Relationship:

Remind Yourselves Why You’re Together - and make time for one another. It’s common for partners to take each other for granted. It’s important that you and your partner stay connected while you weather a problem. Add in spicing up your date nights, having more s*x and being more affectionate!

It’s Important for Relationships to Grow and Change - You may want your relationship to stay “how it used to be” but you should understand that you, your partner and your relationship are dynamic and always changing. This will allow you to progress forward and establish an even stronger connection.

The Sooner You Stop Assuming, The Better - When you’re angry, it’s easy to assume the worst. The best way to move forward in relationships is to give each other the benefit of the doubt. Like any good therapist, take a step back, see your relationship for what it really is, make an effort to smooth over any issue.

Use ‘I’ Statements for Healthier Arguments - which means talking with your partner without pointing fingers. Don’t tell another person how to feel, who they are, or lecture them. Instead, use ‘I’ statements to describe your thoughts and feelings which opens up the dialogue and allows your partner to engage with empathy.
