Hey Yoga Friends, anyone reading this book? It’s so interesting to read a biography by one of your teachers, and walk your path again from a different vantage point.

He was my second yoga teacher, that I would eventually spend any hours and days studying. Now, some 30 years later, my daughter takes practice with him several times a week online and we are book clubbing his book.

Such a good read. So much compassion, love and gratitude for Bryan. 🙏🏼

“I’m not teaching aesthetics, I’m teaching healing and feeling”-Jill Miller
-
I took my first class with Jill 10 years ago. I remember when we went around the room and introduced ourselves she said “You’re brave to pick this as your first class”.
-
Really I was clueless…
-
I was a Crossfitter in a room full of Yoga instructors. Most of whom had taken her intense Level 1 training already and knew what to expect.
-
The class was a “Core Immersion” where we spent a week moving, breathing, twisting, and rolling with a big squishy ball in our “core” to learn not only the physical but also our mental and emotional holding. (I thought I was going to be learning ways to work my core🤦‍♀️).
-
For me it was the FIRST TIME EVER, that I slowed down and felt my breathing, and paid attention to the interaction between my nervous system and my mind and body.
-
I went on to take numerous other classes with Jill (including the intense Level 1🤯) and she has forever changed the way I coach and teach.
-
Jill taught me embodiment. I came from the world of competition. In my teens, I trained and stressed myself so much that I’d give myself ulcers. I learned to train through them and even competed (and won) while anemic. I had trained myself not to feel the discomfort.
-
Taking Jill’s class was the first time I was TAUGHT how to listen to my body. I was safely guided to explore and learn.
-
The reality in today’s world is we are constantly bombarded and in order to “survive” we disconnect, we numb, we push through and we fight.
-
I am so excited to have this new reference guide and continue to share her knowledge.
-
In the beginning I needed guidance to sit and listen. I needed others to help lead me as I navigated and learned to listen to my own body.
-
And I am forever grateful to now offer classes and workshops to help guide others as they learn to sit and listen.
-
Thank you for putting your love and energy into another beautiful book!

Honored to be a guest on the Science of Sports Recovery Podcast this week
・・・
Sandy Gross ( ) was a part of the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers Championship Victory. . . Well she didn’t play on the team, nor was on their staff, but she did play a part. Here’s how:

In 2015 the Cavaliers had a strong team, but were plagued with knee and ankle injuries to some of their key players. They lost in the finals to the Golden State Warriors.

Frustrated with all the injuries, and having the background to help, Sandy reached out to their coaching staff and started working with the staff and some of the players on how to warm-up and cool down properly, mobilize their joints, and prevent injuries.

The result? Well, they won in 2016…

Coincidence? Maybe, but they did not suffer the amount of injuries as the year prior.

This week's episode of the Science of Sports Recovery podcast is all about getting to the starting line, or the starting whistle healthy.

You can’t win championships on the side line.

This week, I was honored to be interviewed on Melinda Smith's Heart Mojo podcast.

In it, I tell my story of how I got into fitness, yoga, rehab therapy, functional movement, my diet and how I came back stronger than every after surviving septic shock.

Hope it inspires.

Sandy

Are you looking to live more confidently in your body?

Maybe you’re not sure you fully trust your body to move well for the long haul. You want to stay physically healthy, be able to exercise, play your sport and enjoy adventure; but aches, pains, injures, and sidelines are starting to feel like a new normal. Perhaps you work out and have no pain, but want to have more control over your joint health and injury prevention while being in great shape. Or maybe you have no idea how to get around a gym, but you’ve had a health wake-up call and you need help!

Get ready for some good news…

You can learn how to manage your aches and pains. You can solve problems yourself, before they escalate into injuries that require health care costs, decreased quality of life, and missed playing time.

**There has never been a better time to prioritize movement education so that we can manage aches and pains ourselves and prevent future ones.**

Based on my in-person 12-session Move Well Ed. program, in this video series I’ll teach you the most potent lessons of this program - the essential principles, patterns and skills that literally formed your backbone, your walking gait and you'll clean up your movement habits and postural challenges.

Through this program, you'll become a student of your body and begin to connect the dots of moving well to your whole movement life. You'll learn how to create smarter warm ups and recovery routines and how to better interpret coaching cues during fitness and sports. You'll also learn how to apply the principles into your daily life so that you simply drive your body better for a lifetime.

**You are not broken, nor injury "prone" - you just need to re-connect to moving well and understand that before there was "exercise", we emerged as perfectly tuned human movers.**

Physical therapists and orthopedic doctors agree - most musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction can be distilled down to poor movement understanding. Move Well Ed. will upgrade your entire life.

Here's what this program includes:

- Six instructional practice videos - the core principles, patterns and skills of human movement. Live streamed & recorded with replay access for 2 months
- Private Facebook group for Q's
- A lifetime of empowerment!

This Sunday at my virtual studio...___________________________________💡

**What a “taking a knee” actually meant standing up...?**

This week, we’ll explore the “tall kneeling” series I made up and I use with my athlete clients of all ranges, even and especially my tech athletes, which also happens to be my athlete clients. (Yes, PS4 is tech).

Basically, the tall kneeling position is the first time you stood up and loaded your spine when you were a toddler contemplating walking and this series is a great warm up if you've been horizontal or sitting a bit and need a reboot. You actually should reboot like often. Wakes your brain up and gets your glutes "online".

Also, ask your mom how long you moved around on your knees when you were little or if you skipped this developmental phase and walked early. Skipping childhood developmental phases can show up later in life in everything from learning disabilities, concentration issues and low back pain.

CLASS NAME UPDATE: "Functional Yoga" will be the new name of my class, well, because people notice that alot of yoga has become performative and tell me they appreciate that my classes are about function. Also, Google analytics on my site. So Functional Yoga it is.

Tomorrow…you’ll need a yoga block AND a dumbbell or KB.

Link in bio to register. $15 per class or $19.99/mo for membership. ***Join before July 1 to get locked into this price til the end of the year! Move Well Virtual Studio is expanding. More details soon or join my private FB page for more - link also in bio.

ATHLETES: In the Move Well Virtual Studio this Sunday EDT.

Yoga Tune Up® - The Leg Stretch Series

👣This class focuses on supporting the innate ability of your lower body musculature in seeking balance through specific stretches combined with breath work. This class will be mostly on your back - a blend of active and passive stretching.

👣We tend to think of our bodies as pieces and parts - hamstrings, glutes, quads, hip flexors, etc. This stretch series will help your legs, pelvis and lower back re-integrate with each other after a long work week of sitting, fitness week of exercising, a sport week of training, etc.

👣This series is a staple in my work with athletes of all levels and for my own body on a weekly basis. Join me this Sunday - link to register in comments below. (MEMBERS: Don’t forget to go and click “register” in advance of Sunday to be on my roster for the class and for easy one-click access on Sunday.)
