first step is just being aware of your stressors and being clear on the impact stressors are having on you.

sometimes we ADD additional stress by trying to “fix” it, when we may just need to start by getting clear and finding pockets of time to slow down.

in the space of slowing down we might find more creative, sustainable solutions.

August is National Wellness Month!

each week I’m suggesting a wellness challenge you can try. the intention is to make these foundational habits you can rely on even during times of high stress, holidays, vacations, etc.

the wellness challenges so far:

1. HYDRATE - drink water! be sure you are meeting your body’s individual water intake needs by drinking half your body weight (lbs) in ounces (if you weight 160 lbs your goal is 80 oz of water each day)

2. RESTORE - create good sleep hygiene by aiming for 7-9 hours of sleep each night. to help with this, stop eating 3 hours before bed, turn off screens/blue light 30-60 mins before bed, and use a low dose of melatonin (to lower cortisol at night) and magnesium (to turn off fight/flight and turn on rest/relax)

notes:
Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS):
fight/flight/freeze

Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS):
rest/digest/relax

melatonin is a hormone.
cortisol is a hormone.
when melatonin increases, cortisol decreases.
we want our cortisol to decrease after sunset so we can be sleepy by 9 or 10pm; we want our cortisol to increase by sunrise so we can feel awake & alert by 6 or 7am.

Try to jump into these wellness habits now and carry each habit into this next week as we introduce a third challenge… stay tuned for next week’s wellness challenge + tips 😊

*a hiking group (suitable for beginners)

*mindfulness-based stuff that’s less about diet & exercise and more about mindset

*a “going gluten-free” class

*Food Sensitivity Testing and other functional medicine tests & protocols
