✨ What is 3-D Mammography?✨
Also called tomosynthesis or “tomo,” this test uses a special X-ray device to take thin “slices” of breast tissue.

🔎 Why it matters:🔎
- Creates highly detailed images
- Can be viewed slice-by-slice or combined into a 3-D picture
- Helps doctors spot cancers earlier, even ones traditional mammograms might miss

đź’ˇ Research shows 3-D mammography can substantially improve early detection, giving patients the best chance for successful treatment.

✨ In the shower:
Use the pads of your 3 middle fingers to check your whole breast + armpit area with light, medium, and firm pressure. Feel for new lumps, knots, or changes.

✨ In front of the mirror:
Look for changes in shape, contour, dimpling, swelling, or ni**le changes. Check with arms at your sides, then again with hands on hips and chest flexed.

✨ Lying down:
Place one arm overhead and use the other hand to repeat your check. Switch sides.

đź’ˇ While the median age of breast cancer diagnosis is 62, experts recommend starting self-exams in your 20s.

The goal? Breast self-awareness. The more familiar you are with how your breasts normally look and feel, the easier it is to spot changes early.

Breast cancer typically has no symptoms when the tumor is small and most easily treated, which is why regular screenings are essential for early detection.

If you have a family history or other breast cancer risk factors, it’s a good idea to begin screenings early and often. For most average-risk individuals, screenings typically begin at age 40.

Talk with your provider to determine your individual risk factors, so you work together to create a personalized screening plan. Start the conversation at your next Annual Wellness Visit, or any regular in-person or remote visit.

Did you know we also now offer Breast Ultrasound Screenings?

A breast ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging test that creates real-time images of the inside of the breast. It is especially helpful for women with dense breast tissue, where mammograms may be less effective.

When was the last time you did a self breast exam?

Breast cancer is complicated, scary, and unfortunately common. One in eight people with breasts will develop breast cancer in their lifetime, which is why early detection is so important.
