Our Low-Dose CT scan is meant for patients who meet specific criteria to enhance early detection of lung cancer.
Eligibility criteria:
- Adults ages 50–80* (*Must be 50–77 for Medicare)
- Current smokers with at least a 20 pack-year history
- Former smokers who have quit within the past 15 years with a 20 pack-year history
- No current signs or symptoms of lung cancer
- Patients that have had a shared decision-making meeting with P*P
- Pack-year history calculated as number of packs of ci******es smoked per day multiplied by number of years individual has smoked (e.g., 1 pack ci******es per day for 20 years, or 2 packs of ci******es per day for 10 years, etc.)

St. David’s South Austin Medical Center is a Level 2 Trauma Center.
Our Low-Dose CT scan is for patients who meet specific criteria to enhance early detection of lung cancer.
Adults ages 50–80 who have at least a 20 pack-year smoking history and are current smokers or have quit within the past 15 years should consider a low-dose CT lung screening. LDCT scans to screen smokers for lung cancer reduces the risk of death by 20%.
To participate in the screening, make an appointment with your primary care physician. You must obtain a low-dose lung cancer screening order form before scheduling an appointment at one of our facilities.
