I’m so glad you have taken this step to consider counseling. This is a step of strength and courage in the direction of change, growth, and new hopeful possibilities in your life. I would be honored to come alongside you and walk this next part of your journey with you. Because you see, life is a journey and often there are obstacles, unexpected difficulties, stresses, or even tragedies. At times
we get discouraged and overwhelmed, we feel alone or hopeless, and sometimes the burdens weigh us down so much that we begin to experience such debilitating symptoms as clinical anxiety or depression. I am ready to partner with you to face and work toward overcoming the issues holding you back from living your best life. MY CREDENTIALS
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Texas and a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Seminary of the Southwest here in Austin. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and also a Certified Life Coach, credentialed by the American Association of Christian Counselors. MY FOCUS AREAS AND SPECIALTIES
I work with individuals, couples, adolescents and do group therapy. I feel especially called to help those struggling with anxiety, depression, identity and self-worth issues, spiritual direction, marriage and relationship stresses, family of origin abuse, eating disorders, purpose in life and career choices, and parents facing the empty nest syndrome. Currently I am facilitating a women’s therapy group and book study, Calm My Anxious Heart, for overcoming anxiety and discovering peace and contentment in life. MY COUNSELING PERSPECTIVE
I believe we all were created by God and there is a vital relationship between our mind, body, emotions, and spirit. Counseling can be a powerful tool to help when these get out of balance. I come with a Christian perspective – that the Bible is God’s Word and is filled with hopeful promises which will address your needs, that prayer is real, and that a close connection with God or Higher Power can transform your life. I will respect your preference, however, if you personally are not comfortable with spirituality at this time. My basic goals for you can best be summarized as Healing, Hope and Wholeness. MY METHODS
Our life is a story and when we learn techniques such as mindfulness, journaling, and relaxation skills we actually can “rewrite” our story to have a much more positive, healthy, and hopeful focus. I utilize two main therapeutic philosophies known as Narrative and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and at your discretion I will incorporate Scripture, prayer and the dimension of spirituality. I also will recommend such practices as exercise, healthy eating, getting enough sleep, and going for a medical checkup, so that we can effectively address all four dimensions of your life – mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual, and work toward Wholeness and balance of all of these. MY RATES
Session fees are $100 for a 50-minute session and $140 for a 75-minute session. I accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express, as well as cash and checks. I am happy to offer you a sliding scale if cost is prohibiting you from seeking counseling at this time. Just let me know and we will decide together.
