Our 88-year-old male patient was referred to Dr. Vikram Duriaraj at our Georgetown office for a consultation. He reported experiencing eye irritation due to the laxity of his lower eyelids. Despite trying both medicated and lubricating drops, he found no relief. After discussing the risks and benefits of a bilateral ectropion repair, the patient proceeded with the treatment. He is pleased with the results and is now experiencing relief from the irritation. We are honored to be part of his care.

Understanding Senile Ectropion
Senile ectropion is a medical condition marked by the outward turning of the lower eyelid, commonly observed in older adults as a result of the natural loosening of eyelid tissues with age.

Symptoms
• Excessive tearing
• Dryness
• Irritation
• Redness
• Gritty sensation
If left untreated, these symptoms can lead to complications, including corneal damage.

Treatment Options
• Use of artificial tears to protect the eye
• Surgical repair to reposition the eyelid to its normal alignment

Our 70-year-old patient was referred to Dr. Karen Brown for a consultation due to the progressive drooping of his eyelids, which had begun to impact his vision. At times, he would manually lift his forehead and eyelids to improve visibility, particularly in the evenings or when he felt tired.

Following the consultation, he underwent a bilateral upper blepharoplasty, Browpexy, and Internal Ptosis Repair. The postoperative photo showcases how this surgery can enhance the male eye without altering its natural appearance. He looks rejuvenated and more alert, and he couldn’t be happier with the results!

Recently, TOC’s Dr. Irina Belinsky, along with Fellow Dr. Remi Flor and Dell Resident Dr. Kristen Park, conducted an orbitotomy to obtain a biopsy of the extraocular muscle.
The patient presented with a relatively painless, progressive proptosis. Imaging studies revealed enlargement of the lateral and superior re**us muscles, accompanied by enhancement of the cavernous sinus.
Education and the sharing of knowledge are pursuits that last a lifetime. Skin Cancer Reconstructive Surgery: A Two-Stage Approach for Optimal Results!
Reconstructive surgeries for skin cancer often require multiple stages to achieve the best outcomes. In this particular case, our patient underwent a two-stage approach. She had a basal cell carcinoma located along the right side of her nose, which was addressed with Mohs surgery, affecting the ala of the nose. Following the cancer removal, her right nostril began to collapse whenever she breathed through her nose. After her consulation with Dr. Anish Abrol they decided a 2 stage treatment would give her the best results.
Dr. Abrol expertly reconstructed her nose by transferring tissue from the cheek using an interpolated flap, effectively concealing the incision at the junction of the nose and cheek. Additionally, he utilized skin and cartilage from her right ear to support her right nostril and fill in the defect.
Now, two months post-surgery, she is thrilled with the results! She can breathe easily without any issues, and her incisions have healed beautifully. We are honored she selected us for her care.
