Measles update.
Note that this case in Austin is NOT related to the outbreak in Texas right now and there are no presumed further exposures from this isolated case.

An early dose of the MMR vaccine is available for babies over the age of 6 months who are traveling internationally in order to minimize cases like this. Call the office for more details.

MEASLES UPDATE

We know many of you are following the Texas measles outbreak and may have concerns. The measles vaccine is typically given at 12 months of age and again at four years of age. It is absolutely one of the best vaccines we have: one dose confers 93% protection and a second dose raises that to 97%. As of now, the health department is NOT recommending we give doses early to unexposed healthy children (there are a few exceptions).

Right now if you have an unvaccinated child 12 months or older, we implore you to come in for a vaccine. Similarly if your child four years of age or older has not had the second dose, give us a call. We are monitoring the situation closely and will keep in touch. Feel free to call or MyChart message us with questions!
