The celebration also acknowledged the 20th anniversary of the Neal Kocurek Scholarship Program, underscoring its growth and impact throughout the years.

Over the past 20 years, the Foundation has awarded 853 scholarships — totaling more than $26 million of support — to students pursuing healthcare careers. This fall, 45 new students will join the program alongside 215 active scholars.

Beyond financial assistance, the program also provides mentorship, mental health support, and fosters a nurturing learning community for the students.

Advancing health equity requires a thriving, diverse, and locally rooted healthcare workforce capable of addressing both individual and systemic barriers to health in our region. A strong healthcare workforce pipeline not only supports better health outcomes but also creates pathways to stable employment and offers economic stability.

St. David's Foundation is proud to support the inaugural State of Healthcare Workforce Forum where healthcare executives, workforce experts and education partners came together to address the region’s workforce needs, share solutions to close critical labor gaps, and explore innovations shaping the future of care in Central Texas.

Thank you to our partners at Workforce Solutions Capital Area, Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area, and the Central Texas Healthcare Partnership for leading this important conversation on the future of healthcare in our region.

In January 2022, St. David’s Foundation set out to explore a bold question: What if trusted community spaces, like libraries, could help bridge one of the most persistent gaps in rural communities – access to mental health support?

Ten libraries in Central Texas were selected to participate in the Libraries for Health initiative, a pilot that placed peer mental health specialists and wellness programming within these community spaces. RAND served as the design and evaluation partner and worked alongside Via Hope, the pilot implementation partner that led the hiring, training, and management of the peer specialists.

We are pleased to share the pilot’s findings and model, along with a community toolkit designed to help other communities looking to improve access to mental heath support.

In January 2022, St. David’s Foundation launched the "Libraries for Health" initiative to address the shortage of mental health care in rural Central Texas. The effort was grounded in community need and informed by conversations with community members across the region.

Over the past three years, the Foundation collaborated with RAND Corporation as the pilot’s design and evaluation partner lead, and with Via Hope as the implementation partner responsible for hiring, training, and managing peer specialists who provided mental health support for community members at 10 participating public libraries.

We’re excited to share the full "Libraries for Health" evaluation report, brief, and toolkit here: https://stdavidsfoundation.org/how-we-work/featured-work/libraries-for-health/ -resources

At the 2025 Grantmakers In Health Conference in June, our Vice President of Community Investments, Regan Gruber Moffitt, facilitated a dynamic peer dialogue session: “Sharing Power with Community: Closing the Gap Between Intention and Action.”

Many in philanthropy understand that solutions are more successful when shaped with the communities most impacted. Yet, the path from intention to authentic community engagement often stalls before it starts.

In this session, participants were invited to reflect, share stories, and identify actionable steps they can take to move beyond good intentions. At St. David’s Foundation, we are proud to be a part of these essential conversations centered around health equity and community voice.

The people closest to the issue best know the solutions. For health funders, sharing power with community could mean giving residents a voice in shaping your grantmaking priorities or where grant dollars are spent. Many funders understand that solutions are more likely to be successful when the peop...

This week marks Black Maternal Mental Health Week, a moment to raise awareness of maternal mental health issues affecting Black women during pregnancy, childbirth, and after.

We know that in Texas, Black mothers experience serious, unexpected outcomes of labor and delivery at twice the rate of their white counterparts. Our current funding opportunity, "Healthy Births, Healthy Communities," aims to increase regional capacity in Central Texas to provide culturally responsive, community-informed perinatal health support within and beyond clinics to improve maternal health and birth outcomes.

We encourage you to review eligibility for this funding opportunity and share with your networks committed to strengthening the maternal health ecosystem in our region.

🗓️ The last day to submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) is July 28, 2025 at 5 PM CST. If your LOI demonstrates a strong alignment with the goals of the funding opportunity, your organization will be invited to submit a full application due by August 15.

We’re working hard to make Central Texas the healthiest community in the world.

St. David’s Foundation is one of the largest health foundations in the United States, funding $70 million annually in a five-county area surrounding Austin, Texas. Through a unique partnership with St. David’s HealthCare, a Malcolm-Baldrige award-winning hospital system in Central Texas, the foundation reinvests proceeds from the hospital system back into the community, with a goal of building the healthiest community in the world. St. David’s Foundation also operates the largest mobile dental program providing charity care in the country, and runs the largest healthcare scholarship program in Texas.

The foundation’s strategic priorities include:

· Providing Central Texans with the healthiest care in the world,

· Creating the healthiest places for Central Texans to live, and
