My Story

Dr. Burrus is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon practicing at the Orthopedic Associates of Central Texas and sees patients in South Austin, Southwest Austin, and Bastrop. He specializes in arthroscopic (minimally invasive) surgery of the knee, shoulder, ankle, hip, and elbow. Additionally, he has a special interest in complex knee and shoulder reconstructions, shoulder replacements, and hip labral tears and impingement. His practice also includes foot and ankle surgery, joint replacements, fracture care, and general orthopaedics. A native of Southeast Texas, Dr. Burrus attended Washington and Lee University where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a B.S. in Biology, magna cm laude, and played varsity soccer. During medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Virginia where he scored in the 100th percentile nationally for his in-training exam and served as Administrative Chief Resident. Following residency, he completed a Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery fellowship at the University of Michigan under many nationally and internationally recognized surgeons and received additional training in hip arthroscopy. For Part I Examination of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (certifying examination), Dr. Burrus scored in the 95th percentile compared to the national average. Throughout his training, Dr. Burrus has worked with several high school and NCAA Division I athletic programs (University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University). In addition, he formerly assisted with the Under 18 USA Hockey National Team Development Program and provided sideline coverage for the International Champions Cup. With this in mind, he takes care of all his patients as if they are part of his family.
