In case you missed it...ASHA has added a nice resource for SLPs regarding the role of speech pathologists in the management of trach and vent patients to the Practice Portal.
Donāt forget to consider the utility of FEES in management of this patient population. FEES provides detailed anatomical information regarding secretion management and airway patency, as the position of the vocal folds and the presence of any anatomical obstruction can be visualized. All of these details help drive decision making and recommendations for use of speaking valves and for dysphagia management.
What is the role of an SLP when working with patients who have a tracheostomy, and how do they collaborate with tracheostomy team members? Check out the newest Practice Portal page on Tracheostomy and Ventilator Dependence! Share this resource with students and colleagues! https://on.asha.org/2J6A8ir
We'd like to know what you think about this page, the site as a whole, and how we can continue to develop the Practice Portal as a resource to support your clinical decision making. Contact ASHA's Practice Portal at https://on.asha.org/2xkHiKp.
