Orthotic Prosthetic Technologies hosted their 4th annual Run and Roll Tennis Clinic at the premier facilities of Grey Rock Tennis Club in Austin October 6th 2012. We had 15 amputees and 4 wheelchair players on courts. Fernando Velasco, Grey Rock Owner and Director of Tennis, along with Wimbledon champ, Dennis Ralston, put clinic attendees through their different paces of skills and participation.
Some attendees came to improve their tennis skills and some came just to be outdoors, have some fun, socialize, and of course, have some good BBQ after a hard afternoon on the courts! One thing for sure, everyone had a great time and look forward to next year’s clinic already!. Everyone had a big smile on their face from the 2nd we got on the courts and that is really what it is all about.

OUR OPT Run and Roll Amputee Tennis Clinic is this Saturday, October 6th--featuring Wimbeldon Tennis Champ Dennis Ralston. The address at the Grey Rock Tennis Club is 7401 Hwy 45 Austin 78739 Phone 512-301-8685. If you need directions the day of the clinic, please call the tennis club.
Tennis skills ARE NOT required to attend the clinic. There are all levels of playing abilities. This event is mostly about participating, being outdoors, and enjoying some time moving around. You can play in your wheelchair also. No excuses not to come. If you are an accomplished player, then this is the place for you, too. This year there is a comedy tennis act performing (featuring Fernando Velasco, Director and owner of Grey Rock Tennis Club) and of course, we will have Rudy’s BBQ after we finish playing. Come have some fun with us! Clinic starts at 1 p.m. then around 4 p.m. we will have BBQ from Rudy's.

Mindy and Her Practitioner Chad Oyler are Currently Climbing MT Kilimanjaro.

About Kilimanjaro. The name itself is a mystery wreathed in clouds. It might mean Mountain of Light, Mountain of Greatness or Mountain of Caravans. Or it might not. The local people, the Wachagga, don't even have a name for the whole massif, only Kipoo (now known as Kibo) for the familiar snowy peak that stands imperious, overseer of the continent, the summit of Africa.

Kilimanjaro, by any name, is a metaphor for the compelling beauty of East Africa. When you see it, you understand why. Not only is this the highest peak on the African continent; it is also the tallest free-standing mountain in the world, rising in breathtaking isolation from the surrounding coastal scrubland – elevation around 900 metres – to an imperious 5,895 metres (19,336 feet).
