Hospice is more than care—it’s a promise that begins with compassion and ends with dignity. We honor every choice, every story, every goodbye with grace and respect. As a nonprofit, we strive to provide hospice care to all who need it—even those without insurance—because no one should face the end of life without comfort or connection.

Thanks to the generosity of Austin Community Foundation and its newly launched Forever Austin Fund, Hospice Austin can continue to provide end of life care for those who need it. We’re honored to be named one of the Fund’s first Health & Wellness grantees, helping ensure that care reaches those who need it most in Central Texas.

At Hospice Austin, we believe caring for patients and their families means going beyond just medical care. It’s about presence, compassion, and helping each person find a sense of peace during one of life’s most challenging moments.

A family staying at Hospice Austin's Christopher House was struggling with the heartbreak of their loved one’s final days.
Emotions were high, and it was especially difficult for the patient’s 12-year-old granddaughter to make sense of what was happening to her grandmother.

“I don’t understand what is going on with my grandma,” she cried. “Is she going to be asleep when she dies?”

Keisha Jones, our Director of Inpatient Services, gently sat with the young girl and answered her questions with honesty and care.

She explained the dying process in a way a child could understand and encouraged her to talk to her grandmother. It was a moment that brought comfort to them both.

“Thank you for understanding me,” she said, her voice quiet but full of meaning. Her grandmother died peacefully an hour later.

The next day, Keisha discovered a note from the granddaughter. It was sweet, simple, and filled with gratitude. She wrote, “Thank you for making me feel better and helping me to understand this. I think you’re an angel!”
