Jason, a naval officer, was fulfilling his call to serve his nation when he fell during a routine inspection aboard a naval ship. He immediately felt intense pain in his back and leg. After a double discectomy, his back pain eased, but his leg pain remained. He had what's known as complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) in his leg. His breaking point came when he couldn't put on socks without intense pain - he sought other treatment options with his doctor and decided on a neurostimulation trial. After two days of the trial, Jason said, “Let me do this, this is great.” Learn how Proclaim™ DRG Neurostimulation changed Jason’s life for the better.

At just 19 years old, Mark was working as an EMT, but in one moment while lifting a patient, he began to experience back pain and eventually the pain made it too difficult to even walk. After years of medication, spinal fusion surgery and physical therapy, his doctor recommended spinal cord stimulation (SCS). “I was cautiously optimistic,” said Mark. Learn how SCS changed Mark’s life for the better.

As we observe Hernia Awareness Month, it's important to recognize that hernia surgeries can often lead to nerve damage in the groin and lower extremities. Did you know that we offer the only FDA – approved dorsal root ganglion (DRG) technology that target specific nerves to bring relief to those affected with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS I) and causalgia (CRPS II) in the lower extremities, such as the hip, pelvis, and groin?1
Roughly one in five people living with diabetes will develop diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN)1, a long-term complication that can cause numbness, tingling, burning or stabbing sensations in the feet.2
Patients with DPN are 18 times more likely to experience significant pain relief if treated with spinal cord stimulation therapy compared to conventional medical management.3*,** Our chronic pain portfolio offers you more options to treat DPN. Learn more: https://abbo.tt/4iiHoXi.

Welcome to Abbott's Chronic Pain community page, dedicated to sharing and celebrating everyday moments of living well while managing chronic pain. Our commitment is to help you live your best life possible through good health. One way we do that is by researching and developing better ways to give you relief from chronic pain.
We want you to have a place to share thoughts about taking better control of your chronic pain and living your best life. One way to take better control is with neurostimulation.
When you feel chronic pain, it is because your nerves are sending pain signals to your brain. Neurostimulation therapy works to reduce pain by altering the pain signals before they reach the brain. A generator, similar to a cardiac pacemaker, sends stimulation pulses to a thin wire called a lead. The lead delivers these pulses to nerves along the spinal column, which modifies the pain signals as they travel to different parts of the brain. The pulses change the way your body perceives the pain — providing potential relief.
One of the benefits of neurostimulation is that you can try the therapy using a temporary system before committing to an implanted system.
Consider taking control of your chronic pain and feeling more like yourself again.
Risk Information: The placement of a neurostimulation system requires surgery, which exposes patients to certain risks. Complications such as infection, swelling, bruising and possibly the loss of strength or use in an affected limb or muscle group (e.g. paralysis) are possible. Additional risks such as undesirable changes in stimulation may occur over time. Be sure to talk to your doctor about the possible risks associated with neurostimulation.
