I earned my MA in Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology with a specialty in Couples and Family Counseling from the University of Colorado at Denver in 2008. I am licensed by the state of Texas as a Professional Counselor – Supervisor (LPC #65187) and Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #201301). I am also a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) and a Supervisor for clinicians earning their RPT credential. Mary’s University in San Antonio, TX. I love working with children in play therapy! The growth I have the honor of facilitating in my child clients is a rich foundation for future resilience and optimal functioning. As a complement to play therapy with children, I offer parent coaching and consultation so the shifts that happen in therapy can be maintained at home. Whether working with a family or an individual, I believe I am working with the system of relationships. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and utilize it with many of my clients. I have been amazed at the brilliant effectiveness of this technique to help clients move from a place of pain to a place of resilience, self-confidence, joy and gratitude. We dig deep into the subconscious patterns of thinking and behaving that have been driving current distress. What I witness is not unlike the metamorphosis of caterpillar to butterfly. Again, it’s an honor to be trusted to guide someone in this process. My career has been enriched by a diversity of experience. My Masters and Doctoral internships (2 and ½ years) were in school districts where I conducted play therapy with children referred to me for behavioral and emotional issues as well as family therapy and parent coaching. In psychiatric hospitals I served in multiple capacities as a clinician – intake assessment, lead therapist on multiple units, outpatient program facilitator and group leader. I have more recently worked in the nonprofit sector as a full time staff therapist at Interface Samaritan Center in Houston, TX and at the Samaritan Counseling Center in Austin, TX. counseling individuals, couples and families and facilitating seminars. I utilize an integrated and client-responsive approach to counseling with Narrative Theory as the basis of my case conceptualization. I use evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy tools, which are also integrated into the EMDR process. I also weave faith & spirituality into counseling when appropriate and welcomed by my clients, as well as mindfulness & meditation, energy psychology, interpersonal neurobiology. I find that most of my clients benefit from building their capacity to self-regulate when life feels yucky. I love what I do and realized early on that it’s a spiritual calling. I look forward to building a therapeutic relationship with you and/or your child. Thank you in advance for your trust!
