Migraine patients need options in their treatment toolbox and often ask what they can do beyond important lifestyle measures that are also non-medication approaches worth considering. One tool we discuss is utilizing the science behind green light!
I can recommend the Allay Lamp www.allaylamp.com, because it is based on nearly a decade of research at Harvard. Studies show that light made up of all the colors--red, yellow, blue, etc - generates large electrical signals in the eye and brain and can lead to irritating light sensitivity. However, a very specific narrow band of green light - which is the only light emitted by the Allay Lamp generates much smaller electrical signals in the eye and brain and is instead soothing. My patients also find it helpful to use it as a transition night light prior to going to sleep, as more research is coming out that it promotes calmer sleep.
