Doesn't it feel horrible to notice you're comparing your bff's body to yours?

We do live in a world that gives some bodies power and not others, but you can actively choose to disengage from your inner narrative that tells you that those differences have MORAL value.

Because they do not.

Comparison is a tough one though. Diet culture created the idea in your head that those differences mean something. They do not mean that you're more or less lazy, have more or less control, are more or less loveable, or more or less desirable or deserving of pleasure.

But I know it can feel all-consuming. Take baby steps away by telling yourself that your body is uniquely constructed to take you through this life. It is worthy just as it is. You have different bodies. Sending love.

Many of us are taught that we are not good enough. In her beautiful and powerful book, All About Love, bell hooks explains what love really is and why so many of us learn as children how to give and receive love.

I am still finishing this book, but so far, something that has really impacted me is the way she distinguishes care from love. Your parents may have shown you loads of care, but not really shown you love.

That does not mean they were horrible people, just that they did not truly understand how love is shown.

These acts affect the way we see ourselves and what we are easily able to accept about ourselves.

You may have a hard time accepting yourself because you were taught that an "imperfect" body is not worth loving.

This is not your fault, but is your responsibility to unravel and unlearn in your life if you wish to find ways to unconditionally love and accept yourself, the way you are.

I have to remind myself of this at least twice a week.

Our society has so many ways that it teaches us what the “right” way to be is, the right way to act, to look, the right way to live, to love.

When it comes to food and your body, you have to consistently come back and practice the art of listening to yourself, instead of all that noise.

It ain’t easy. Listening to your body is hard, and harder even for some.

But it is a practice, and it can be learned.

So I hope on this holiday, you’re listening to yourself and taking some time to think about who is still not free to just be.

Emotional eating is often misunderstood - in the media and very likely - in your brain if this is something that haunts you.

Eating to comfort yourself or for the sheer pleasure of eating delicious food is not a problem AT ALL and not something we want to banish from your life. It’s part of being human!

But if you feel totally crazy around food…

If you’re stuck in a negative loop eating to distract or numb, or if you just can’t figure out why you eat every time you’re bored, this is for you.

I’m digging into the two types of emotional eating and how they show up in the body - and in relation to body image - in a FREE class in a couple weeks….

What you YOU think about YOUR eating? Do you tell yourself you're an "emotional eater"?
