Throwing Light is a unique talk/meetup that highlights issues we normally shy away from in the LGBTQIA+ community. Transphobia, HIV shaming, fem shaming, drug use, racism and so many more issues that hurt us will be addressed over the course of Throwing Light. We also will discuss ways to face these issues to improve the mental health in our community through leadership, education, music, drag, and other art. Each talk/meetup is an open discussion of ways to help our community come closer together and understand our challenges. We ask the LGBTQIA+ community to look inward to make the changes we need that will give us the freedom and respect to live our lives. Nothing is off the table. If there is any community issue you want to face, bring it to Throwing Light! Throwing Light is hosted by Louis Toliver Jr. Austin Eagle 2024) in support of ASHwell on his Instagram Live every Sunday at 6:30pm, except 2nd Sunday. LTJ’s Instagram is: LTJishere. Louis will have a guest from around the globe every Instagram Live, which will cover a large range of community issues over the course of the show. Every 2nd Sunday, ASHwell Sexual Health + Wellness and LTJ host a Throwing Light virtual meetup with a specific topic and guest via Zoom every 2nd Sunday at 6:30pm. Zoom ID: 988 325 5023

Having access to local resources in our community is so import. ASHwell empowers central Texans by providing sexual health and wellness services that serve the body, mind and spirit. In support of ASHwell, we will ask for donations every meetup rather on Instagram or Zoom. We will provide ways to donate.

Ray opens his topic by bringing attention to the fact that Q***r history is being erased, especially the stories of immigrants and BIPOC people. Being an Asian immigrant, he learned through his leather family that visibility is survival. He then discusses that visibility is resistance. Ray gives examples such as creating events, recording stories, and uplifting elders. He encourages that we can build living archives that outlast backlash and political shifts. Ray stresses that inclusion must be structural, not symbolic. He adds that marginalized people belong in leadership, tradition, and legacy, not in side spaces or temporary initiatives.
