Hi all, a quick update on mom. Yesterday, mom had surgery to repair a large paraesophageal hernia. During the procedure, the surgeon discovered scar tissue that was adhered to the liver. That scar tissue, combined with the hernia, were likely the culprits of mom’s continued gastric pain. The surgery was successful, with the scar tissue removed and the hernia repaired! Mom has some pain from the procedure, which is to be expected. She will likely be released home later today or tomorrow! We are hopeful that this final surgery will finally provide relief! ❤️🙏

Hi everyone. An update on mom. On Wednesday, May 6th, mom went into the emergency room in Austin with gastric pain. She was transferred to Mayo the next day, where she spent the next two weeks undergoing every test imaginable, trying to determine a cause for her severe pain. In addition to the testing, she was placed on a feeding tube, her anti-rejection medications were changed, and all medications were given intravenously to give her stomach rest.

The good news is, her new kidney is completely fine, and the pain is unrelated to the transplant. They weren’t however able to pinpoint an exact cause of the pain. It is likely nerve related, which adds more new medications, and she will continue to follow up with her doctors. She was released from Mayo on the 15th and is resting at home, feeling a little better each day. ❤️

A note from Mom ❤️

First of all, I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming love and support I've received. To all the friends and family who sent cards with money (which has been a big help while I'm not working), gifts, food, flowers, and messages—both on Facebook and privately—and to everyone who stopped by to visit, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

A special thank you to Bruce and Mary for watching the house while I was in the hospital, to my neighbor Eleanor for taking in the mail and bringing down the garbage cans, to my daughter Angela for staying with me for almost three weeks, and to my son Joshua for driving all night to come get me, take me to the hospital, and stay with us.

All of this feels like a miracle from God—I honestly still can’t believe how lucky I am. After having two major surgeries in less than a year, I’m feeling so good. All my blood tests are coming back perfect. I am truly blessed.

Monday and Tuesday mom and I spent our day’s at Mayo completing follow up appointments. While we were hoping to be “released” today, mom has one more test to complete Thursday - and she is looking forward to graduating the initial transplant program! The doctor told us today she was on the accelerated program 🙌

It has been wonderful to be back home in Austin, I can 100% say she is healing so much faster at home! Thank you to our family and friends who have come to visit, sent gifts, and called to check in! It truly means more than we can express, and we are extremely thankful❤️

Quick update. Mom had an infusion yesterday to support anti rejection, and all went well. We had multiple appointments this morning, and all good news! She continues to feel better each day, blood test results are all trending the right way, and now she is just hoping to get some good sleep tonight (steroids do not support good sleep 😴)

All medical staff we have seen continue to be amazed and excited about mom’s progress, and continue to remind us how lucky she is. We are immensely grateful each day! ❤️

Friday update!! Another great day! Mom is doing 10 laps at a time around the unit, getting stronger by the hour. She will be discharged tomorrow!!

Because we have to stay close to the hospital for a while, mom and I will be staying in a house we rented in Rochester starting tomorrow.

Doctors, nurses, Josh and I, even mom are amazed at her healing and progress. We are so grateful ❤️

Thursday update! Mom had a great nights sleep, and is feeling good today! She had some breakfast and even walked a lap around the hospital floor! She does have pain, but that is to be expected, and being managed.

We are amazing by her progress so far, and the best part, creatinine levels are steadily declining, and her new kidney is AWAKE!!! 🙌🙌🙌

Last post tonight! Mom is back in her room and doing great!! Pain is under control and her spirits are high! We are beyond grateful (and tired!). ❤️
