Have you ever felt like you’re running on fumes, burning your candle at both ends, ready to self-combust from exhaustion?
For years, that was me- always overcommitting, saying yes to everything, and trying to do it all.
But over time, I’ve learned something life-changing: burnout doesn’t have to be the norm. Your body will whisper before it screams, if you slow down long enough to listen.
This October, I did exactly that. I knew it would be a full month — work deadlines,’ soccer weekends, Girl Scout campouts, volunteering, and being there for family who were grieving. So instead of pushing through like I used to, I gave myself permission to take a sacred pause.
I stepped back from social media and teaching for most of the month, and instead focused on simply being present for my family, and for myself. And honestly, it felt grounding and good.🥰
Here’s what helped me refill my cup (and might help you too):
✨ Move your body gently. Walk, stretch, dance, or flow. Movement doesn’t have to be intense to be healing.
🥗 Feed your body with intention. When we’re tired, it’s easy to reach for quick fixes. I stocked my fridge with nourishing foods so I wouldn’t default to junk when my energy dipped. C**k pot meals for the win!
🌿 Create stillness. Some of my best moments this month were spent journaling, meditating, or swinging quietly in my hammock, doing absolutely nothing- and that nothing was everything.
💤 Prioritize rest. I started protecting my sleep like it was gold and it helped me recoup.
💆🏽♀️ Receive care. I booked massages, classes, and allowed myself to be cared for instead of always being the caretaker.
If you’re in a season of overdrive, maybe this is your reminder: it’s okay to step away. The world can wait. Your people will understand. What matters most is that you come back to yourself.
Because when you rest, you don’t fall behind — you rise back aligned.
