The On-X Heart Valve is a newer generation heart valve made of a unique material and design characteristics compared with earlier generations of mechanical heart valves. Artivion is a leader in the manufacturing, processing, and distribution of medical devices and implantable tissues used in cardiac and vascular surgical procedures focused on aortic repair. Our purpose is to develop simple, elegant solutions that address cardiac and vascular surgeons’ most difficult challenges in treating patients with diseases of the aorta and deliver breakthrough technologies of unsurpassed quality that have far-reaching impact. Our decades of expertise in treating aortic diseases—coupled with our recent acquisitions and partnerships—have empowered us to offer cardiac and vascular surgeons a suite of aortic-centric solutions such as cryopreserved cardiac and vascular allografts, surgical sealants, prosthetic heart valves, aortic stents, and stent-grafts. The data on valve choice is now very clear in patients < 60 years old.

According to a new analysis of the STS database published in JACC, choosing a mechanical prosthesis is independently associated with a significant survival benefit over bioprosthetic AVR in patients 60 years of age and younger (1).

Choose On-X Aortic, the only mechanical valve to provide patients an 87% lower bleeding risk with less anticoagulation (INR 1.5-2.0) (2).

As a recipient of an On-X aortic valve and a cancer survivor, Barbara’s story is an inspiring testament to perseverance. She finds healing and joy in the mountains, where she thrives as an avid hiker, backpacker, and mountain climber. Always seeking new challenges, she’s collecting adventures across the globe, living by the mantra: “Gotta just keep moving!”
