Music can support learning math skills in so many ways! β β β β β β β β β

1. c o u n t i n g I love the way r h y t h m is such a natural way to learn counting - you almost couldn't NOT count to a beat if you tried (sorry about the double negative there...)! β β β β β β β β β

Add movement, like jumping each time you say a number! Or instrument play, tapping the beat each time you say a number! Or melody, going up the scale for each number! And you have e n g a g i n g and m e m o r a b l e math lessons! β β β β β β β β β

2. p a t t e r n s We can also use music to teach patterns (remember our S'more patterns from the Campfire Bundle?), alternating rhythms, instruments or melodic lines to create ABAB or ABCABC or ABCBA patterns... and more! (The real question is... do those letter patterns take you back to music theory class or math or poetry??)β β β β β β β β β

3. memorization of m a t h f a c t s + c o i n v a l u e s and more! We can write songs that rote teach math skills that need to be memorized, because we are trained in the unique ways the brain is wired to music! β β β β β β β β β

4. p r o c e s s e s We can also teach steps through song, like how to tell time or how to count with one to one correspondence (which is, identifying that each item represents a number, versus counting where you simply scroll through the numbers without associating them to anything). β β β β β β β β β
