Behind the Scenes: Admin Day

There’s a dearth of effective ADHD assessment tools for adult women and AFAB folks, and I’m attempting to remedy that. Let me tell you, Google Sheets sucks, but I’m mucking my way through.

Goddess help me.

The mano-sphere is going to love this one. Maybe I'll get lucky and ratio.

Anywho...I'm excited to continue the current blog series about late-diagnosis ADHD in women and AFAB folks.

As a late-diagnosis ADHD non-binary AFAB person who carries all the feelings in their body, this topic feels like I'm writing my own personal attack and simultaneously holding up a mirror. If you see yourself here, welcome. There are, in fact, reasons and explanations for your experience, and I hope this blog helps provide insight and maybe a might of self-compassion and motivation. Perhaps even some solutions. I mean, what's a mental health and coaching blog without at least a little problem solving?

If you're a child of the 90s or early 2000s, then I've no doubt you're familiar with the term "high-functioning."

Hell, you may even still consider it a compliment.

But this blog takes a deeper look into why "high-functioning" - especially as it applies to neurodivergent women and AFAB folks is particularly insidious and harmful.

I also talk about person-centered ways to dismantle this term so we can all do better.

Y'all, I am so excited to share the start of this blog series about ADHD in Women (of all definitions) & AFAB folks.

This series is inspired by many of my clients' - and my own - experience with late-diagnosis ADHD. The relief. The frustration. The grief. The chaos and hilarity. The 'what now.'

So if you're in your 30s or 40s reading this post, and your five best friends have all been diagnosed, you might want to click that link below. Because, well, like finds like in the end.

Read it here: https://www.prismintegratedhealth.com/blog/why-wasnt-i-diagnosed-sooner-the-hidden-presentation-of-adhd-in-women-amp-afab-people

And in the meantime, what's your most unhinged ADHD hack?

Practicing ethical social work and therapy means perpetual questioning, deconstructing, unlearning, and learning anew.

While I know these concepts, it’s feeling especially important to know the source material.

Often, as a therapist, we notice themes that pop up with clients over the course of the week. This week’s theme is using physical activity the deescalate overwhelming emotions and to grow and improve our distress tolerance.

We figured out that lots of folks have different, specific movements or activities they use to respond to different feelings.

Here are mine:
🤬 Rage, anger, needing to feel strong or grounded - lift heavy weights(specifically back squat, bench press, and deadlift)
😢 Grief, sadness, or anxiety - run or fast walk WITHOUT MUSIC. Let your brain wander and process.
😔 Depression - dance and sing badly; try your best to be embarrassing

What do you do?????

Easiest grounding technique ever:
Find your pulse.

This answer is different for everyone, but I think it’s about balance. Keep a finger on the pulse, while also keeping a finger on your pulse.

How are my therapists doing?
