🔍 Clinical Pearl: Hyponatremia

MYTH: “All hyponatremia should be corrected quickly to avoid complications.”
FACT: Rapid correction can cause osmotic demyelination syndrome. The safest approach is to correct sodium slowly—generally no more than 8–10 mEq/L in 24 hours—and always tailor the rate to the patient’s symptom severity and chronicity.

Pearl:
Always check serum osmolality, urine osmolality, and urine sodium early. These three tests often reveal the underlying cause faster than anything else.

Stay tuned for next week’s Texas ACP Clinical Pearl!

For this week's , we're revisiting 1895, when German experimental physicist Wilhelm Roentgen accidentally discovered X-rays while experimenting with cathode rays! 🩻 The first image? His wife's hand--complete with wedding ring! 💍🦴 From bones to chest films, his discovery continues to guide every diagnosis we make.

But what if we also ended with a moment of gratitude?

“Gratitude Rounds” are a simple, evidence-based way to build resilience and connection in clinical teams. Studies show that regular gratitude reflection can:
✨ Improve team morale
✨ Reduce burnout
✨ Enhance empathy
✨ Strengthen communication

How it works is simple: before you wrap up your day or sign out from service, take a few seconds to name one positive moment — a patient’s smile, a teaching pearl, a good save, or a kind word from a colleague.

Try it with your team this week, and notice how it shifts the tone at the end of a long day.
