🦷✨ Case Highlight: Persistent Gum Inflammation That Needed More Than a Rinse
This patient came in with red, swollen gums that just wouldn’t calm down — even after weeks of excellent home care, Peridex rinses, and topical steroids. Everything right 👏, but the tissue stayed inflamed and tender.
During her exam, we noticed diffuse inflammation along the front teeth, right where she had recently switched to a new toothpaste. 🪥 Some formulations (especially those with sodium lauryl sulfate or certain fluoride compounds) can trigger contact irritation or hypersensitivity — especially in patients with thinner gum tissue.
When non-surgical therapy and medicated rinses don’t work, there’s often an anatomic or structural reason the tissue can’t stabilize. In this case, we performed a minor gingivectomy along with a tunnel and coronally advanced flap, using a deepithelialized connective tissue graft to restore healthy, resilient tissue.
The result? 🔥
– Complete resolution of inflammation
– Stable, esthetic soft-tissue contours
– And a very happy patient who said her gums “feel normal again.” 😁
This case is a great reminder that not all inflammation is just plaque or bacteria. Sometimes, the solution isn’t another rinse — it’s correcting the underlying tissue architecture for true, long-term stability.
