Cancer Rehab and Integrative Medicine

Cancer Rehab and Integrative Medicine Inspired by my own mother and grandmother’s journeys with cancer I opened Cancer Rehab Austin in January of 2016.

We offer physical therapy, lymphedema treatment, acupuncture, massage therapy, skin care services, aromatherapy consults, exercise classes, nutritional consults and healing seminars, to help survivors, thrivers, and caregivers. “Having been an oncology physical therapist for almost a decade in the hospital setting, I saw a need for a more holistic and multidisciplinary approach to recovery. Thankfully the treatment of cancer is starting to move more towards quality of life and addressing the entire person, not just their cancer. That mission is at the heart of CRIM ”
— Owner and lead therapist
Dr. Angela Wicker-Ramos PT, DPT

Lymphedema impacts so much more than just the body—it can touch every part of your life. Research shows there are 9 key areas where people living with lymphedema often feel the effects, from changes in self-identity to emotional ups and downs, social isolation, and more.

In 2021, we invited a mental health expert to our Lymphatic Health Seminar to dive deep into these challenges and share strategies for support and healing. This powerful talk is available anytime in our static video library—just head to the link provided below. Whether you’re a patient, caregiver, or simply seeking to understand more about holistic cancer care, you’re welcome in our community.

Remember: you’re not alone. Your experiences are real, valid, and shared. Let’s keep supporting each other on this journey. 💛

Caring for Your Skin with Lymphedema: What to Do (and What to Avoid)

Your skin is your first line of defense—especially when living with lymphedema. Here’s how to keep it healthy and protected:

✅ DO:
• Cleanse, dry, and moisturize your skin every day
• Gently clean and protect any cuts or scrapes with antiseptic cream
• Use mineral-based (physical) sunscreen daily
• Apply insect repellent to avoid bites and scratching
• Bathe with lukewarm water—skip hot baths and harsh scrubs
• Choose loose, comfortable clothing and avoid jewelry that could cause pressure
• Move often if you have leg swelling to support circulation

🚫 DON’T:
• Expose your skin to extreme temperatures or harsh weather
• Let your skin become dry, cracked, or irritated
• Get blood pressure checks or blood draws from affected limbs

💡 Pro Tip: The right moisturizer can make all the difference in protecting your skin barrier. Want expert advice? Watch Samantha Kool’s full video for her top skincare tips for lymphedema.

You deserve gentle, effective care—every step of the way. Reach out if you need support or have questions about managing lymphedema. We’re here for you!

💧 Why is exercise so important for your lymphatic health?

In this quick 1-minute video, our founder & physical therapist Angela Wicker-Ramos explains why movement is one of the most essential components of lymphatic care.
Unlike other systems in the body, the lymphatic system doesn’t have its own pump—it relies on muscle contraction and physical activity to keep lymph fluid moving. That’s why intentional, appropriate exercise is a key part of both lymphedema management and overall recovery during and after cancer treatment.
At Cancer Rehab & Integrative Medicine, we believe education is empowering. In our physical therapy sessions, we don’t just treat—you’ll learn practical tools and techniques you can use at home to support your lymphatic health every day.
