Happy Sharky Mothers Day! This is one of our favorite ultrasounds of a tiger shark showing her growing babies! YES sharks are moms too! Tiger sharks (like 60% of other shark species) give live birth. Just like a human mother who goes to a doctor to check on her growing baby, we use the same technology on sharks. This mom was carrying large well developed babies and was close to giving birth (check out the teeth on the baby!) Using an ultrasound allows us to better understand what habitats are important for shark moms and their babies!

Just like you, we continue to monitor the impact of the coronavirus in our local and broader communities. EIMI is closely following updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO) and other national health organizations.

These are most certainly unprecedented times. As an employee-owned, Colorado company, the health of our fellow employees, customers, and partners is our first priority. Our Loveland, Colorado facility remains open and we have taken recommended precautions for enhanced cleaning and hygiene practices. We have implemented further internal precautions to mitigate the risks surrounding this fast moving virus.

BOVINE PALPATION VS. ULTRASOUND
Discovery of re**al palpation to distinguish features and structures of the female reproductive tract dates back to the 1800’s.

Since then, there has been widespread adoption of this technique as a reproductive tool in the veterinary field to determine various aspects of the cow’s reproductive status.
