The abductor hallucis (AH) supports the medial arch of the foot and is connected to the tibialis posterior, flexor hallucis longus, and flexor digitorum longus. These in turn are part of the posterior leg kinetic chain ending with the glute max. Thus dysfunction of the AH can affect the glute max. NKT often finds the AH overworking and the adductor hallucis underworking as well as the AH overworking and the glute max underworking. This article describes the relationship between the AH and glute max and how strengthening both can improve gait and foot mechanics.
Now, you know why I always make you do footwork:)
