Had a great session with a Midlife Mama coaching client yesterday. Just love to hear that she is recognizing when negative thoughts pop up and to redirect her attention onto her breath.

Negative thoughts serve a purpose of alerting us that something is wrong, i.e. like the analogy of a hand touching a hot stove. It's important that we recognize that our hand is touching a hot stove, but, keeping our hand on the hot stove doesn't serve us a purpose.

So, when you feel shame, guilt, anger, etc... Recognize that negative thought and take a breath. Bring your attention back to the present moment by using your senses... Listen to your breath, touch your finger tips together...

And, start learning on how to create new neural pathways to responding stress and to regain control over your emotions. šŸ’•

What is the one most effective way to stop being hijacked by negative thoughts, people, or situations? Take a breath. Literally. Stop and take a breath and label your thought to detach from it.

So, let’s say you have an interaction with someone and feeling irked. Label that emotion… ā€œIrknessā€ and breathe.

When we can detach ourselves from negative thoughts and move into a place of acceptance of ourselves, others, and situations, we can move mountains. It’s about creating new neuropathways so that we can react in way that serves us from a place of motivation rather than stress.

So, the next time you are feeling hijacked from your emotions, breathe.
