Hi all, and sending New Year’s Eve Blessings to you!💫
This morning as I guided a yoga class with some longtime students, I shared a couple of passages from one of my favorite books by Octavia F. Raheem, Pause, Rest, Be: Stillness Practices for Courage in Times of Change. I share some of her words in the images here, and highlight some key inquiries Ms. Raheem poses. May it serve all.
[image 1] Hello from me(!) Reading some words of wisdom this sunny morning, grateful for where I am now. So many thank yous and energetic hugs to the loved ones–my family, dear friends and mentors–who have always believed in my light even when I felt it dim for a while. Love to you all always.
[on image 2] “When faced with an ending, an all-of-a-sudden ending, what do you do? What can we do when what we once knew and believed to be infallible begins to crumble before our eyes? When our inner and outer worlds are writhing in unexpected and prolonged pain? When the reckoning of ages has come slowly and then all at once?”
[on image 3] “Beloveds, there are so many endings crashing down at once. Can we sit alone and feel the magnitude of all of this? Then, can we sit together and strengthen our breath? Where my inhale is strong and yours is weak, can you be my exhale? Will you drum against your heart with me and call on everything that is sacred, holy, and timeless to have mercy on us all?
Let us begin with the end.”
[on image 4] “We trust that the endings we face will not end us. We know that some endings signify a much-needed change has come. As humans, we want so terribly to hold on, even when we have prayed for a shift and it arrives at our door. Help us to turn the k**b, cross the threshold, and finally close the door on the places that can no longer serve us. Help us to let go and surrender to the dissolution that many endings bring.”
[on image 5] “Do not let us forget that endings are often brave beginnings dressed in the scariest costume.”
Thank you for these words and reminder 🙏🏾 And may 2023 close with care. May 2024 continue to bring us all light, connection, and heart ❤️
