I’m Matthew from @missiomusic & today I’ll be talking about my #mentalhealth journey and a few tips I’ve learned a long the way to manage the hard days/weeks. ☠️
Thursday is Mental Health Action Day!
SIM Foundation is proud to partner with over 1600 brands, nonprofits, cultural leaders and government agencies in the second annual Mental Health Action Day on 5/19.
On Thursday (and every day) we encourage you to take action in whichever way is right for you. Connect with yourself, a friend or a family member. Practice self-care, yoga, meditation, breathing or other self-calming activities. Find a support group or therapist. Share your story and listen to others. Support systemic change that improves mental health access and equity.
Taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health. And there is no one size fits all approach to taking mental health action and to improving overall well-being. Do what works for you!
Visit www.mentalhealthactionday.org to learn more and join our effort to shift from awareness to action on mental health!

Hi, guys! My name is @mama.duke - I’m a recording artist right here in Austin, Tx and I’m taking over Sims Foundation’s stories today. Head on over and let’s get aquatinted!
Many of SIMS clients have insurance but that does not mean that they can use it for their behavioral healthcare! Did you know that there are many levels of behavioral healthcare for which insurance companies refuse to cover? And while there may be many therapists in network for many insurance plans, those networks are quite often lacking in professionals with specialized certifications and experience, such as EMDR and Somatic Experiencing for trauma and expertise in eating disorders and OCD. These are just two of the any reasons why SIMS serves so many individuals with insurance!
In 2014, I did have insurance but it had very limited coverage when it came to mental health and substance use recovery services. At 60 days sober, I was evaluated for an outpatient rehab program. My insurance denied my benefits because they said I was too sober to qualify. I couldn’t afford the $800 / month cost for the four months suggested (a total of $3,200). Situations like this are exactly where SIMS can come in and fill the gaps that need to be filled.
A donation of $500 pays for one client’s full treatment stay in a medical detoxification facility.
In 2021, SIMS provided 1,370 substance use treatment days to the Central Texas music community and their families.
Happy Mothers Day! 🦋🥰❤️👼🏽
I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than by taking over the SIMS account for the day!
My name is Suzanna Choffel.
I’m an Austin native, a musician, a radio DJ and mostly, I am a mom.
And it’s quite fitting that I’m here on Mothers Day because SIMS has been there for me during my most trying times as both a mom and a step-mom.
Taking care of oneself is hard.
Taking care of oneself while taking care of another human is an entirely different thing.
Thank goodness for SIMS. Through their services I was able to talk to someone about the things that weigh heavy on my mind.
They’ve been helping out folks in the music industry (and their family members) for 27 years!
In 2021, SIMS provided over 11,000 counseling sessions, 1,370 substance use treatment days, and 1,236 sessions with a psychiatrist to their clients.
I could go on & on about their wonderful work but I have the whole day to! So please follow along to learn more & see how you can support the great work they do for our community!

Today is World Mental Health Day!
A reminder that we all need to work together to raise awareness about the importance of mental health, to break down the stigma surrounding it, and to acknowledge the importance of asking for help when you need it.
Mental health should be a priority for all of us. And EVERY day is mental health day at SIMS Foundation.
According to NAMI:
1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness each year
1 in 20 U.S. adults experience serious mental illness each year
1 in 6 U.S. youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year

As we wrap up the month of May and #mentalhealthawarenessmonth, we want to say thank you to each and every one of you. Thank you for helping us keep the emotional well-being of our music industry an ongoing, and important, topic of conversation.
Thank you for taking care of yourself. Thank you for taking care of each other. Thank you for speaking up and sharing your story. And thank you for supporting SIMS Foundation. We are so grateful to be part of such a wonderful community.
Every month is mental health awareness month at SIMS and know that we are here for the music community when you need us.
Mental health is an important part of our overall health. Just as there are things we can do to take care of our physical health, there are things we can do to take care of our mental health!
