Runners deserve more than “just rest.”

Mary works with runners who want to stay consistent, build durability, and actually improve performance — not just get out of pain.

Whether you’re training for your first 5K or chasing a marathon PR, your body needs strength, mobility, and smart load management to keep up with your goals. The small imbalances you ignore today can become the setbacks that interrupt your training later.

Performance physical therapy is about staying ahead of injury, improving efficiency, and building resilience mile after mile.

Run strong. Recover smarter. Train with intention.

Is it hip pain… or sciatica?

“Sciatic pain” often gets used to describe discomfort in the back of the hip or down the leg. But true sciatic nerve irritation isn’t always the cause.

Sometimes it’s nerve sensitivity.
Sometimes it’s hip joint irritation.
Sometimes it’s muscle tension or strength deficits changing how load is managed.

The key isn’t guessing. It’s assessing.

If you’re feeling pain in the back of your hip, glute, or down your leg, we help you identify what’s driving the irritation and build a plan so you can get back to doing what you love.

You don’t have to live with nagging hip or sciatic-type discomfort.

Let’s figure out what’s actually going on.

Your posture isn’t the problem. Staying there is.

There isn’t one “perfect” posture that guarantees you’ll be pain free. What actually leads to tightness and weakness over time is staying in the same position without much movement variability.

When you sit, stand, or train in one sustained posture all day, certain tissues stay shortened while others stay lengthened. Over time, that can create stiffness, reduced strength, and decreased load tolerance.

Sometimes posture contributes to pain.
Sometimes it doesn’t.

What matters most is your ability to move in and out of positions, tolerate load, and build strength across ranges.

The goal isn’t perfect posture.
It’s resilient movement.

If stiffness or pain feels posture related, let’s assess how you move and build a plan around it.

“Mary was so incredible! I was training for a marathon, and she helped me prepare with dry needling and finding the right stretches to do so that my legs would be prepared for race day! On marathon day, I had ZERO pain whatsoever! I can’t thank Mary enough - it was like magic!”

Runners, stop skipping your core work.

It’s not extra. It’s essential.

Your core isn’t about aesthetics. It’s about stability, force transfer, and stride efficiency. A strong, controlled core helps you manage rotation, maintain pelvic stability, and generate power with every step.

When core strength is lacking, your hips and hamstrings compensate. When it’s trained well, you waste less energy, handle higher mileage, and move more efficiently.

That efficiency is what helps you run stronger and faster.

Mileage builds endurance. Core stability builds performance.

At Empower U, we focus on core exercises that directly translate to your stride, improving control, speed potential, and long term durability.

You don’t have to be in pain to benefit from performance physical therapy.

Performance PT isn’t just about fixing what hurts — it’s about understanding how your body moves, where stress is building, and how to stay strong, efficient, and consistent before pain shows up.

Runners, climbers, lifters, and active adults use performance PT to:
• improve movement quality
• address small limitations before they become injuries
• support training consistency and recovery
• stay active long-term

Waiting until something hurts often means waiting too long.

If you want a plan built around performance — not just rehab — we’re here to help.

Climbing asks a lot of your shoulders and that’s where mobility and strength matter. 🧗‍♀️

If your shoulders feel stiff on the wall, unstable in overhead positions, or sore after sessions, it’s usually not just a flexibility issue.

Climbers need shoulders that can move well, control load, and stay resilient through long days of pulling, locking off, and reaching.

Targeted shoulder mobility paired with the right strength work helps:
• reduce irritation and overuse pain
• improve control in overhead and extended positions
• support long-term climbing performance

At Empower U, we look beyond symptoms and address how your shoulders move, stabilize, and handle the demands of climbing — so you can keep training without constantly managing aches.

If your shoulders are limiting your climbing, it’s time for a plan.
