Sometimes finding the correct diagnosis can be so confirming. Ramsey described feeling like a “weirdo” and a “loner,” calling the diagnosis “freeing.”

Bella Ramsey got diagnosed with autism after a crew member on "The Last of Us" spotted the signs.

The crew member has an autistic daughter andassumed Ramsey had it, which prompted the actor to seek out a formal psychiatric assessment and diagnosis. Ramsey described feeling like a “weirdo” and a “loner,” admitting autism was something they had “always wondered” about. They called the diagnosis "freeing" and "liberating."

"It enables me to walk through the world with more grace towards myself about not being able to do the easy everyday tasks that everyone else seems to be able to do. I’ve always been watching and learning from people. Having to learn more manually how to socialize and interact with the people around me has helped me with acting.”

Partisan bias is widely discussed in news media and about news media organizations. However, in addition to partisan bias, news organizations and journalists perpetuate structural biases that perpetuate violent, stereotypical ideas and hopelessness about our world and our role in it. This webinar examines help news consumers evaluate sources, identify structural biases and what to do about them, and more effectively present their own ideas for change. Participants can choose to join a small group to examine a news article to discuss its structural biases, followed by a full group discussion of the article and Q&A.

News media examples about immigration, LGBTQIA+ rights, and Palestine solidarity will be examined.

When I talk to my clients about working through trauma in therapy I want them to understand about how daunting and challenging the work can be. It’s not easy work, but can be very rewarding in the end. So I use this metaphor of tangled twinkle lights.
Most of us have used twinkle lights before, or been in a family where twinkle lights were used as a decoration. After the holiday, we are exhausted and overwhelmed and often just wad them up and shove them into a box and throw it on a shelf or in a closet so we don’t have to worry about it for the whole next year (or possibly ever).
The next holiday rolls around and we are confronted with needing to face the inevitable tangled wad of lights when we peek back into that box in preparation. Sometimes this feels to daunting and we leave it up on the shelf to maybe try another time. But when we are finally ready to move forward, we pull that box down off the shelf and start to work on the tangled mess.
It can be slow going. We might shake a few lights loose and come to complicated tangle just as we have to go to work, or pick our kids up from school. And when we do that, we might have to gently put those untangled areas back in the box and up onto the shelf to work on a again later, because life can’t stop just to work on untangling the twinkle lights.
Soon though we try again, and we have a head start because we nearly put back the beginning, so we can quickly make sense of the part we already untangled and start to work a bit further down the strand. This continues, with interruptions for daily life, the things we need to do to keep existing and the breaks we choose to do to take care of ourselves, like pet the cat or interact with friends. Those breaks refuel us for the hard work that lies ahead anytime we go back to the box to untangle those twinkling lights a little bit more.
We may hit an unexpected obstacle along the way and need a bit more help, maybe a burned out bulb, or a blown fuse. These can feel like times to give up. But we usually just need more tools and possibly a bit of professional help. And the persistence can pay off!
When we reach the end and find a way to let our world shine bright again, we may even find ourselves glowing a little bit. Now those lights are free to twinkle and shine and be safely repacked in a box for storage for the future. And now that we’ve made sense of the jumble, it’s easy to access them again and make more sense of the full strand. We might not even ever need them again if we’ve moved on, but if we do, they’re now waiting on the shelf ready to be used if needed in the future.
