Idiopathic toe walking can happen for number of reasons (e.g. muscle tightness, muscle weakness, or sensory related). Early PT intervention can help prevent an increased risk of future pain or injuries, or the need for orthotics or surgical procedures related to toe-walking. If your child is walking on their toes consistently, schedule a physical therapy evaluation for a specific plan of care to help your child walk with their heels down!

Physical therapists address gross motor milestones at any age, whether your child is working on rolling, sitting, crawling, walking, or jumping. Reach out to our office if you have concerns about your child’s gross motor skills and learn more about we can help!

A flat head or "plagiocephaly" is quite common and develops in infants who spend a lot of time on their backs and like to turn their head to one direction. Physical therapy treatment can help prevent head flatness and improve a baby's head and neck posture. We can even help prevent the need for a helmet if treatment is started early!

Some members of the Big Sky family enjoyed golfing and volunteering in the first Hearts Fore MK golf tournament sponsored by Texas Children’s Hospital yesterday. All funds raised will help fund research to find the Homerun Cure for all pediatric brain cancers.

Meet Our Owners! Andrew and Vanessa Garza joined the Big Sky family when Pediatric Healthcare Connection retained ownership of the clinic in 2020 prior to the COVID pandemic. With Andrew serving as Director of Operations and Vanessa becoming the Front Desk Scheduling Coordinator as Big Sky began to open their doors during COVID, Big Sky quickly began to feel like home for them. When the opportunity to purchase Big Sky presented itself at the end of 2021, it took little to no time to say yes!

Andrew and Vanessa have always had a strong admiration for the healthcare industry, especially pediatric therapy. They wish to further enhance the patient and family experience at Big Sky from the intake process to graduation. They want our therapists to have all the necessary materials and equipment to provide appropriate treatment to our patients. They want our therapists and administrative staff to feel appreciated because we wouldn’t be here without them. We want to become more involved in the community and eventually grow Big Sky to more locations around the Austin metroplex.

June is National Scoliosis Awareness Month! Scoliosis is a curvature of the spine that affects 2-3% of the population. Early identification and treatment is key in managing curve progression.

If your child has been diagnosed with scoliosis, The Schroth Method can help. Call us to schedule an evaluation and get started with PT treatment!

The Schroth Method is a type of physical therapy practice which includes scoliosis-specific exercises and corrective breathing techniques that are customized to each individual’s spinal curve.

Goals of Schroth treatment:
*Prevent spinal curve progression and decrease the risk for surgery
* Improve postural alignment
*Reduce pain
*Improve self-perceived body image

Big Sky continues to provide flexibility for both in-clinic visits and teletherapy sessions so you can keep up with therapy services within your comfort level. If you are planning to resume therapy this fall, please give us a call at your earliest convenience so we can find a time that works best with your schedule. If you are interested in our increased safety measures and protocols to mitigate COVID-19, please refer to our page or call our front desk for details. We have taken extensive measures to ensure your safety, including temperature and symptom checks for anyone entering the clinic, plexiglass barriers in the reception area and treatment areas, strict hand hygiene and cleaning protocols, medical-grade HEPA filtration units, and more.
