Hey there - I was able to tell my Feldenkrais origin story in this interview with Joe Webster. I talk about my injuries, recoveries, and my process today. If you have about an hour to have a listen, I'd really appreciate your time. Thank you to the Feldenkrais Guild of North America for featuring me in their SenseAbility Oct 2023 Issue. I'm humbled.

In light of Yacov Sharir's passing, while I was studying Feldenkrais during my injuries at UT, Yacov told me while he was dancing with Batsheva Dance Company in Israel, he saw Moshe Feldenkrais a lot who shared the dance studio. He said he saw Moshe putting Prime Minister Ben Gurion on his head!!

Masterclass Description:
Feldenkrais®, or Awareness Through Movement®, concerns itself with the learning of movement. It explores the quality and effectiveness of new movements and challenges the brain to relearn existing movement skills. In effect, it reprogramms the brain to optimize movement on a neurological level. Unlike strengthening and stretching exercises, Feldenkrais® provides participants with necessary kinesthetic information so that they can become more aware of their own movements and learn to eliminate unnecessary strain and effort.

This class will have an emphasis on improving the sequencing of the skeletal joints in rolling so that one may further their understanding of lengthening and shortening the body in spiraling and unspiraling movements. Please bring cover-ups and layers to keep the body comfortably warm and a mat and/or blanket to move on the floor.

Hey there! Read my newsletter to hear part of my personal Feldenkrais story and perspective.

"Feldenkrais increases awareness: the internal understanding of who you are and how you use yourself. My understanding of the Feldenkrais perspective is that the skeleton is architecturally designed in a fashion in which it can support all postures and movement, and muscles are part of the brain’s connections to the skeleton. A relaxed, aware body will align itself easily and naturally through gravity, so that the body masses balance lightly on the skeleton with minimum muscular effort. Muscles are not meant to support weight directly, but to align the skeleton to support the body in gravity and to generate the forces necessary for movement and interaction with the surrounding environment."

"But what’s clear already is that the skeleton is not just a nice set of mechanical supports. Bones constantly remodel themselves in response to the body’s needs, and they’re in constant communication with other parts of the body. Bone is a busy tissue with broad influence, and it’s working behind the scenes during the most basic daily activities."

I’m very honored to announce that I am a speaker at the Move Better, Feel Better 2021 Feldenkrais Summit, an admirable online annual event from May 1-10.

This work saved me time and time again and keeps me going as a highly active mover and groover artistically, athletically, and out in nature for days. I tell my story in my interview with the amazing Cynthia Allen from how I started Feldenkrais injured in college, to a time of debilitating crisis, to how I use the work today to maintain an active and healthy life. My interview will be released on May 5th as part of the Active Lifestyle series.

I highly recommend that you register for this FREE event to learn more about Feldenkrais. Learn how improving movement can lead to having a better life. May 1st kicks off the event with a great opportunity to take 24 hours of live Awareness Through Movement classes and continues with 31 speakers and live panel discussions until May 10th.

Please go here to register: https://lisahueske--futurelifenow.thrivecart.com/2021-unlimited-move-better-feel-better/

While it is free to attend the summit, you may upgrade to have recordings after the summit is over. In that case, I will receive a commission for referring you by using this affiliate link.

Another great article in the New York Times on the Feldenkrais Method!

"It’s a way to quiet ourselves so the sensory details of our experience become clearer. It’s like relearning yourself from the inside out, and the breakthroughs are otherworldly." -Gia Kourlas

I absolutely agree.

It’s cold outside. The pandemic is getting worse. It’s time to look inward with the help of movement practices that create healthy bodies and minds.

**UPDATE, great news! New online class offering!

Ballet Austin admirably reorganized to continue serving our community!! My Awareness Through Movement® class will be offered back at its old slot on Fridays from 12-1pm, meeting virtually live on Zoom. We start next week, May 1st!

Please read about the virtual class and sign up: https://balletaustin.org/dance-fitness/online-classes -df-live-streaming

If you are unfamiliar with Zoom, please give yourself some time to sign in early to get yourself situated. Come prepared with a blanketed/carpeted space to move on your floor and if needed, layers of clothing. A yoga mat may or may not be too sticky for sliding as prompted by some Feldenkrais movement. This class is verbally directed so it is not necessary to see me move on screen. I’d prefer to see you in order to feel the pace of the class, but it is optional if you’d rather be off-camera.

Thank you and see you on the floor!

Since 1956, Ballet Austin has performed classically innovative pieces. Our goal is to create, nurture, & share the joy of dance & fitness with all ages.
