🎉HAPPY TEXAS PARALEGAL DAY🎉
October 23rd marks the anniversary of the founding of the Paralegal Division of the State Bar of Texas. This year marks the 44th anniversary of the Paralegal Division!
Did you know that the State Bar of Texas was the first bar association in the United States to create a separate division for paralegals? Well, it was, and on October 23, 1981, the Texas State Bar created what was originally the “Legal Assistants Division” and is now the “Paralegal Division.” On January 22, 2009, the Texas Senate issued Proclamation No. 1144, declaring October 23rd as Texas Paralegal Day indefinitely. And the proclamation states, in part, “Paralegals are vital resources in law firms, governmental entities, and private corporations and businesses; they perform valuable services for and under the direction of an attorney, and their work requires a thorough knowledge of legal concepts and facts; and ... Through their exceptional talents and expertise, paralegals provide valuable services that contribute significantly to the efficient functioning of the judicial system in the Lone Star State, and they are indeed worthy of special recognition.”
As we celebrate Texas Paralegal Day, it fills me with pride to honor each of you and the extraordinary contributions you, my fellow paralegals, make across our great Lone Star State. Your work ethic, professionalism, and expertise are the driving force that keeps the wheels of justice turning, and it is truly inspiring to witness it firsthand.
To our invaluable PD members, a heartfelt thank you for your commitment to elevating our profession – for setting the bar high and consistently exceeding it through your remarkable dedication to education, professional development, ethical conduct, and pursuit of certifications. I am incredibly grateful and humbled by your commitment. Thank you for being the heart and soul of the Paralegal Division!
